Nifty 50 1.4 vs 24-105 L series

I have a 20d with 3 lenses
the kit lens 18-55, a Tamron zoom 28-300 and a Canon 50mm 1.4
I have fallen in love with the quality of the glass in the 50mm lens. I can actually get a better shot by cropping pictures from that lens than I can by framing with the zoom unless the light is really good.

I'm finding times when I need a shorter lens than the 50 and am considering the 24-105 f4 L lens.

My question is how will the image quality compare between the 50 1.4 (which is not an L series) and the 24-105 L series?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I have a 5D11 and my favorite lens is the 24-105L. It has the best sharpness but it is only F4. All tellephoto lens's have a sweet spot and you have to find it. It might not be were you want or need it. Primes are always better at a certian focal length.

I don't have the 24-105 but think that for a crop sensor camera you should consider the 15-85 EFS. It is very highly regarded for it's IQ and will go significantly wider. If you are considering a jump to FF forget what I just said.

The 50mm is the sharpest lens of any manufacturer - PERIOD. See kenrockwell.com for explanations.

I think I have seen that in my results, but there are different lens qualities. Canon has the 50 in a 1.8, 1.4 and also the L series. I was wondering if the better glass in the 24-105 L series would produce pictures equal to the non-L series 50-1.4

Thanks for the feedback

Just for fun I looked at the Photozone resolution figures for the 50 1.4 - and they are 2598 center, 2382 edge at F4 which is the peak. For the 24-105 at 40mm and f5.6 the numbers are : 2406 / 2241 . All these numbers were done on a 5D II sensor. So, the 50 IS better and it is enough that it can be seen in your images !
