Although not on the list, my favorite is g96. I've used it for years on every firearm I own. Never had a wear or rust problem.

PS - I don't know who added the aroma, but it's the best I've ever smelled.

If it beats the beautiful smell of Hoppes when I open my safe, I may have to add that to my list to try as well

Server Message Block (SMB) is the protocol behind the scenes that allows sharing of files/directories across multiple devices are in a mixed operating system environment. Of course Micro$oft adopted their own version call Microsoft Server Message Block which work Windows to Windows, but the original protocol is still very widely used. SMB1 was originally developed in the 80's so there have been many obvious security concerns that popped up over the years.

Project Farm did a comparison of gun oil yesterday.

Interesting breakdown of the different lubricating oils and CLPs out there. I have used Hoppe's 9 for years and may have to rethink that a little.

Actually mail won't send either if DNS is down since the mail app has the mail servers listed in preferences by name and it still needs DNS to convert mail.whatever.com to the IP address. Not sure what else it might be…as you say could be a lot of things but unlikely to be DNS and there are multiple DNS entries in the os and probably a clustered arrangement on the back end at the ISP anyway…and if you've manually put in google's DNS or CloudFlare's or something else it's definitely clustered/redundant.

SMTP and POP3 can use IP address/port. Most providers don't do that because users are dumb and need to be coddled so they use domain names.

I have paid more for ordering from B&H than can be found on Amazon, even Best Buy.
If Best buy and B&H are the same price, I will order from B&H.
I trust B&H, others, not so much... (Save Best buy.)
People can call it loyalty or stupidity, their choice.

I do the same with my drum equipment. The store I buy from isn't the cheapest, but the rep that is assigned to me keeps notes on what we talk about and what I purchase, and we have conversations and not a sales pitch.

If I were to leave a review for a bass drum pedal on their site, I will comment on it's durability, feel, etc.... not that I paid more for it there.

So if you paid twice what it's worth your ok with that. Pricing is very relevant to any review. I respectively disagree.

They are trying to make money, so personal feelings about price in a review hosted on their systems is not beneficial to them. But people leaving quality reviews about the product (good or bad) is. If I am not happy with the price on Amazon I will do that research myself.

I have just heard from RRS. They are going to supply me with the custom plate and likely offer a return for the MC-L plate. So all resolved and good news!

That is great news!

Before I do that I want to check that the Ellie for the D750 leaves sufficient room for the top left-hand accessory cover to open.

Yes, I highly encourage you to do that....lol

For me it does impede some access to the side panel, but I never use that on my camera so I had no issues.

I have seen it. There’s a used one from B&H. Does the “Ellie” fit the BH-40 ball head?

It fits the BH-30 perfectly so I would assume the specs for the BH-40 are the same, just different knobs.

Additionally, if you go to the 3 Legged Thing website, they are listing the Ellie for $62(edit) USD, so I would just buy new from the company. I did and they are awesome to work with.

Tell me more! I love the tripod and ball head but if I could get an L-bracket or holder from somewhere else then I would likely consider it.

Paul,

I don't know if it will fit your specific needs, but I went with the 3 Legged Thing "Ellie" L-bracket. Just be aware that I have a completely different camera setup from yours so you may have to check out video/written reviews to make sure it fits your needs. My Canon cable connection is on the front of the camera, so I can snake the cable through the space between the bracket and camera.

L brackets are useful if your lens lacks a tripod ring and you want to shoot a vertical composition. The bracket allows you to keep your camera centered on the tripod rather than using the slot and hanging the camera to the side. In short, it is faster to use the bracket and more stable.

Paul and Cactus are both on point. I used a Manfrotto ball head for quite some time and was never satisfied with the little "cut-out" built in to switch the camera from landscape to portrait. Like mentioned above, that slot changes the composition forcing you to re-adjust your tripod in most cases. It isn't a deal breaker, but it's very annoying when you are playing around with blue hour lighting that is changing rapidly.

One other advantage I discovered is that the standard Manfrotto quick release plate (200 PL?) works great on my 100-400 lens when using the Arca-type ball head that I bought

It goes to mention I probably over use my tripod even in conditions where I can get away with hand-held photography. But that is solely a personal choice I make and not necessarily any type of standard.

I know this doesn't help your situation or the original problem, but you may have to find a different brand or model L bracket to accommodate that cable connection. I was going to originally pair a RRS head and bracket, but read some reviews that didn't quite fit what I needed so went with a different company for the bracket and it works amazing with the RRS head.

This situation is totally possible.
Your device relies on 2 things working.
The WAN or Wide Area Network is where your Modem is connected to your ISP to provide Internet.
The LAN or Local Area Network is the wired or Wireless signal from your Router to your device (iPad).
You can have either working fine, but they both need to be working. You could be 5 feet away from your router and if the modem has lost connection with your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you won't have internet.
This is common and usually corrected by a reboot to your Modem / Router... until the next time.
If you have time, turn off the modem for 10 -15 min so the ISP will reset the next time you turn on the modem.
If it occurs frequently, call your ISP and have them check signal strength to your modem. Your modem may have a Globe like light that signifies when Internet is connected. Until that light is shining, your WiFi won't have internet.
This situation is totally possible. br Your device... (show quote)

That is all correct, but address resolution wasn't working but email was....WAN and/or LAN errors would prevent both web browsing and email, not one or the other.

This is a weird one. I was on my Kindle upstairs last night, and I couldn't connect to the Internet. The Wi-Fi signal was listed as "Excellent," but it said it could not connect to the Internet. Maybe the Internet was down temporarily. I wasn't able to connect to the news or weather or any website. I was able to send and receive email, though. How could that be possible?

Could be 100 different things, but my first guess would be DNS was down for a little bit.

^^^ And that is assuming you weren't using a web browser to send and receive email.
