Im at photo workshop in Maine. Im learning to use PS. One of the participants, very accomplished, feels the same way about LR catalog system as I do. My workflow is very simple and I have a good organizational system on my external drive. I want to ditch LR and use Bridge (browser capability) and Adobe Camera Raw. I understand It can do most of what LR can do. I don't batch edit. I also use Luminar 4 and am learning PS. Also I won't have to worry about LR losing photos or not recognizing a drive. Your thoughts? In an earlier post I thought my master photo disk was corrupted. It was an LR issue. I don't want this ajada.

Hi Raptor, DAM is the principal reason I do not use Adobe's Lightroom (LR). It doesn't always recognize catalogues, and navigating them is not easy. What drove it home for me was when I discovered that Adobe has been regularly updating the LR UI while occasionally the program.

PS is way ahead of its time. Apply the PS concepts to other editors(and pertinent methodology) to enhance the quality of your results.

In the end, you too will be ahead of the curve. Good luck!

I expect that this might be a function of the JPEG compression. How large was the initial TIFF image? If it was very large and you had to compress a lot then this might be the cause. If so one way to possibly correct it is to resize the image down then do the JPEG compression. I have had issues trying to fit inside the 20Meg limit and had to tweak the amount of compression particularly on pano shots to get them within the limit.

Hi again Ballard, the initial TIFF is 136.4 MBs. This JPEG is 8.8 MBs. I did have to convert the original file in order to upload it within the site's upload parameters.
I didn't want to down size the original TIFF because that would introduce unwelcome artifacts and would compromise the file's pixel integrity.
One quick solution to the 20 MB limitation is to upload the Pano to a Gmail Drive folder and cut/paste the link to it in the post.

Hi, you may be taking the information too personally and not interpreting the criticism of your craft.

I try to operate with these two principles:
1. Work with what you've got.
2. Don't let your view (or that of others) block your vision.
[This sounds like a mouthful but it works for me.]

The instructor may have imparted some key personal knowledge regarding his/her craft, now you need to digest and apply it to YOUR craft.

In the end you will be a better image-maker and your personal development will impede you from regressing.

Nice image. There does seem to be some pixelization in the sky that seems to be a big strange.

Hi Ballard, thank you. The pixilation appeared when I converted from TIFF to JPEG. That conversion also introduced some dead pixels, look at quadrant #5 (lower left, third building top).

Thank you to each and everyone.
The folks on this site inspired me to push a little harder, and I appreciate it.

Very ambitious, with a great result. I do have one question - how did you get the clouds to stop moving long enough to do HDR AND Pano with so many images? To think, you used an FZ300 which makes the result even more impressive!

You might want to consider doing some frequency separation editing on the sky, which, upon close examination, has a lot of vertical and horizontal artifacts.

Thank you Gene5. I credit the "ghosting" option/feature in Aurora HDR particularly because the clouds had moved from the time of the first HDR-bracket to the time of the fourth HDR-bracket.
You are correct, I used a Lumix DMC FZ300 at 90mm focal length (I have a walking/balance limitation that forces me to use a bridge camera).
I'll look at the frequency separation issue.

Looks good
A suggestion would be to raise the shadows and the overall shot.
The nice thing about hdr is it gives a lot more options

Thanks Hamltnblue. I didn't want to edit anything. I'm sure there is more that can be done. This is my first attempt at HDR-Panorama image-making.

The original file format is "RAW". Each image is adjusted for Lens correction, Digital noise, finally Pixel De-mosaicking.
It is a composition of 24 photos.
The image is composed of a "Top Panorama" and a "Bottom Panorama". Total=2 Panoramas.
Each Panorama has four quadrants. Total=8 quadrants.
Each quadrant has three HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos. Total=24 HDR photos.
Each HDR group of three is blended and tone mapped into one image. Total=8 images.
The "Top" four tone-mapped images are stitched into one "Top" Panorama.
The "Bottom" four tone-mapped images are stitched into one "Bottom" Panorama.
Total=2 Panorama (Pano) images.
The two Pano tone-mapped images are merged into one image.
Result= a single tone-based image.
It takes approximately 105 mins to produce one pc image.

Worst thing about Topaz Labs are the continuous Updates, it almost seems that I am asked to update 2 to 3 times a month.

Why complaint about free software updates?
There are "... worst thing(s) ..."
Unbelievable, complaining about FREE updates?
This has to be a first.

Try Skylum's Aurora HDR 2019 (the latest) - it stands alone in the HDR universe, you won't regret it.

Hi Jeannie88, You need to install DxO PL4 (Primary) first and then NIK(4) (Secondary), the reason for this methodology is program association. In some machines, the OS handles installations in no particular order. In others, the OS (Mainly Windows) handles the primary program first and the secondary (or "slave") program second.
In technical terms, NIK is a slave (or "plugin") to both DxO PL4, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom.

It sounds like buffer overflow.
This is common when using third party transfer.
My suggestion is to use a dedicated card reader attached to the PC (desktop or laptop) either installed or USB.
Format: NEVER format a card on a PC, always on camera.
Methodology: drag and drop using your file manager or use a DAM (Data Access Manager). This is a much more efficient method in that buffering issues are minimal.
I hope this helps.

Hi, I strongly suggest that you research the Lumix DMC FZ-300.
It is ideal for travel and more.
It definetlly overwhelms the FZ-1000.
I call it a game changer.
