Worst thing about Topaz Labs are the continuous Updates, it almost seems that I am asked to update 2 to 3 times a month.

I wonder if you're the first person to complain about free software improvements

I guess it depends on whether you like what they've done?

I would much prefer them to do a more comprehensive update every other month than doing it piecemeal, the last thing I want to do when I sit down to process is to have to go through updates.

Can you turn off auto-updates, as with other software or operating systems, and then check at your convenience?

Yes, and I can choose to not update, the point is that I have never used a program that has such frequent updates, I would much rather they consolidate, of course I don't want to not have the best performance of the software. I love Topaz, it is amazing, I guess I am just gripping.

Why complaint about free software updates?
There are "... worst thing(s) ..."
Unbelievable, complaining about FREE updates?
This has to be a first.

LOL.... I seriously doubt that you have a current issue of Topaz.

That's what I like the most about Topaz...constant improvement.

Not close to a first. Firefox browser was updating all the time, and it was not only annoying, but the updates were always accompanied by sneaky attempts to add additional software. Firefox was not alone in this. I rarely updated and went years w/o updating, and when I would finally update, usually by hitting the wrong button the improvement from version say 30 to 70 were not only insignificant, but actually detrimental. Eventually if you didn't update, you would get notified of a new update multiple times a day, and could NO LONGER turn of these rude notifications. I eventually had to switch to Brave, after 25 years of Netscape==>Firefox usage.

I don't know a thing about Topaz, but I know constant, frivolous updates can often be annoying if not down right rude.

Microsoft is another that does ridiculous updates now every month or more. You almost never can notice any difference between updates, other than it seems each update slows your computer down a tad, and it takes a lot of time to install these insignificant updates, including a re-boot each time. I got two of them in July. Whatever it is they are updating so often is not transparent either, who knows what they are really up too...

I suspect it might be fixes for the continuous OS upgrades Apple has been introducing. Seems things quit working after an OS update.

Not super convenient, but I'm glad to update their fine products!

My life isn't all that busy!

The answer is pretty simple. Uninstall the software and be done with their free updates.

True Topaz charges for "major updates" but correcting and improving between is free. Stop to consider Open Source Programs, they are continually improving and expanding capabilities.

AI is ever-changing, so of course, Topaz improves and de-flaws their AI programs ... I see no danger in AI as long as we can control the contribution by sliders and percent overlays. But when it gets to the point where AI interrogates you, then flies your camera to the location decides on the photo composition, radios home as it is coming home that is a step too far.

Google's free DeepDreams is AI gone astray... it is psychotic seeing dogs and birds everywhere... Altho they claim it is because humans got too friendly with the AI. Warning... Deepdreams is addictive and is being considered in the future to require a prescription as tho a class one narcotic. I am addicted... I go to AI meetings monthly.

WARNING: Topaz Products Fan Response:
I receive updates two ways from Topaz Products for my seven apps.
1. Email notification with a link so that you just have to click to start the download.
2. When I open a program it has a statement that tells me that there is an update available for this program, and would you like to update now or have a reminder later?
Either way, the updates may take as little as a minute, but rarely as much as five minutes.
Also, the updates do not involve you except for your selecting to "Update Now, or Later"
Some updates are very small and almost admin in nature and some may delete your current program and completely replace it.
The bottom line with me is that Topaz Products updates are VERY unintrusive, do not involve me checking to see if "CrapWare" is being covertly being installed without my permission, and updates are not a vehicle to advertise other products. Topaz Products are not for everyone, but they are VERY high in quality and make it possible for me to get dramatic improvements with just a few clicks. This advantage allows me to shot more and spend much less face time with a computer monitor, which makes me . . .
Smile,
