I have that exact setup (a6000, MC—11 and Sigma 100-400). The lens can be very sharp if everything is right. I have quit shooting bursts, on quick moving subjects, on the high setting because it does not focus fast enough but set on slow it does much better. Since I don’t have the Sony 100-400 nor a newer camera I can’t compare, but for the money I’m very happy with it. I did buy a third party tripod collar for about $50 which looks and works great.
I should mention that I just got a super deal on the Sony 70-350 (should be here on Wed.) to try to pick up the missing fast focus (I shoot a lot of air shows). I will make a test run, with both lenses side by side, to see if it’s any better and let you know if you can wait about a week.

I was out shooting with my Sigma 100-400 this morning. Just took a look at the results and it's really pretty good--just not great. It's good enough for my needs but...

Which brings up another question---
If I hold out and get a 6600 should I hold out a little longer and get a 7 III? A used one is not much more than a 6600. I like the size/weight and the extra reach of the APS-C. What extra would going with a FF do for me? I have 2 FF lenses to get started with.

Thanks

Thanks guys, for the insight! Being retired and on a fixed budget kinda puts a damper on the top of the line stuff and my skills really don't warrant the best stuff and, again, I don't make a living at it.
I sticking with cropped gear because it's less expensive and some smaller and lighter. The 6500 & 6600 with the stabilization may be something to look at.
I went to the Colorado Air National Guard fly over yesterday and made about 60 shots ----0 keepers-that's the first time with zero.
I may just hold off a bit and see if the 6600 comes down or until there are some on the used market.
Lots to think about.

Thanks

OK--I have thought it over and decided to not do anything about the lens right now. The Sony probably would not be that much better to justify the cost.
What do you thing about going to the a6400 over the a6000? Maybe, again, not worth the cost?
I think I should probably work on me before the gear.
What do you thing?

You are right---I probably should be happy with what I have-- it's just a hobby and my livelihood does not depend on it. BUT...Just when I get a good, very good, shot of a BIF or at an air show or a close up of a bug and I think "WOW that's pretty good" then I see a super sharp shot and think "mine's not that good.
At the last Thunderbird show in Cheyenne I had a "keeper rate" of about 20% that were OK sharp.
I would post a couple but don't see a way to do it on this thread.
Thanks

I’m looking to upgrade some equipment.

I have a Sony a6000, soon to be up graded to an a6400.

I have a Sigma 100-400c (with the MC-11 adapter) with which I’m mostly satisfied.

I’m looking at the Sony 70-350, it’s a little smaller, just a little more than half the weight and a native lens. The Sigma works well, it could focus a little faster (which the 6400 should help). I don't expect to ever go FF.

My question is sharpness. The Sigma is pretty darn good up to about 375mm and not bad at 400mm.

I can handle the size and weight (lighter would be nice). It focuses fast enough for 90% of my shooting but some say that the Sony is extremely sharp.

Will the Sony be sharper?

Anyone have personal experience with these two lenses?

I appreciate the experience and knowledge of this group.

Thanks for any advice.

Can not get any better than that.
Or West Coast I would do the same with Laguna Beach. Same reasons Plenty to do and helps rebuild the American economy.

West coast is off my agenda (even though I was raised in beautiful downtown Bakersfield).
Never been to Myrtle Beach. That one may go on the list to vote on.

That's a great place but one problem----I lived in SA for 7 years before moving to Colorado.
It is a great place to visit. AND don't miss Nardis Gun Club--I ran it while in SA.

Wild Dunes Resort, located on Isle of Palms SC. They've got vacation home rentals, two hotels, great beach, a boardwalk, pools, and a few dining options. They've got kids programs, are well known for golf and tennis, and it's about half an hour to Charleston.

Upstate New York in the Adirondack Park (largest park in the contiguous US), about an hour north of Albany, is Lake George. There are several resorts on the lake with the most famous one being the Sagamore. Similar amenities to those above at Wild Dunes, but on a beautiful lake. There are a few places that rent boats, you can go kite flying and if you're into camping, instead of staying at a hotel or resort, NY State rents campsites on several of the islands in the lake. Fort Anne is at the southern end of the lake, as is Lake George Village (a bit honky tonk). Historic Fort Ticonderoga and Lake Champlain are within an hour's drive north. You can take a ferry across Lake Champlain to Burlington VT.

Beautiful up there in the summer time. I worked at Lake George one summer while in college in Ithaca in 1972. Seems like the mafia had a big showing there back in those days (they tipped really well!). probably changed by now. That's one to put on the list.

The Great Smokey Mountains offers most of what you list. Its cool. There is a wide selection of types of accommodations. Within the park, Cades Cove has both camp sites and a lodge. Nearby, Pigeon Forge, has endless choices of motels or cabin rentals, as well as day and night-time family entertainment. The ladies might like to go and spent some time at the nearby Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC.

Now that's a place that was never mentioned. A neighbor goes to Pigeon Forge every other year.

Actually we have a grand kid and a Great Grand kid who are both 1, within a 2 months.
If we did what they want we'd float around the swimming pool and eat pancakes. That would be a cheaper way to go. Don't think I could do that for 2-3 weeks especially in Houston in the summer.
