The two words in Wordle that have caused me the most trouble are FOCUS and PHOTO just like in real life!! I wonder how I'll deal with PIXEL and FLASH??

Trying this joke again, with emphasis on the punchline:

They all start off OK but then it feels like the author was just making it up as they went along. ba-doom-boom! <rimshot> <cymbal crash>

Apparently you are correct. I was watching "Murder She Wrote" last night and fictional author Jessica, talking about her latest novel, admitted that she didn't know who "did it" until she wrote the last 12 pages.

Can't wait to see Wile E. Coyote try this thing out.

A couple of my favorites who aren't exclusively mystery are David Baldacci and Lee Child.

Had mumps at 28. Ran 104 fever and spent a week in the hospital. Doctor said "Go home and resume light exercise". Apparently bowling is not light exercise. First game started with 5 straight strikes and I'm thinking "Wow, mumps are great". Went directly from the bowling alley back to the hospital for another week. Did not pass Go.

I liked the town of Watsonville. It really is "Strawberry Fields Forever". LOL.

Yeah, I spent my summers as a youth in those strawberry fields. I know them well.

Reuss, I use that ploy to whittle down the possibilities when 4 letters are known in Wordle. Someone said in "Expert" mode one cannot do that, but I don't even know about "Expert" mode and am able to use it.

I don't really understand the restriction, because it does reduce solving the puzzle to essentially a guessing game and luck plays a big role. To me, thinking of a way to narrow down the possibilities with a test word is more "expert" than depending on dumb luck.

I totally agree with you. If you go into settings, the top switch turns on "Hard Mode" where in each subsequent guess you have to use all the letters you have previously found. I'm going to turn it off. I've lost two games due to this.

Instead of trying the next letter that will go with what you already have, try a new word using as many of your "unused" letters if you can. My opening words are CLONE, TRASH and IMPLY (explained elsewhere in my comments) which I follow with words like FEUDS or BUDGE to narrow down later guesses.

I do that except when I am in "Hard Mode". In that mode you must use all the letters that you have previously found in each subsequent guess.

As I am an old English teacher, it's interesting to do from time to time, but I am certainly not addicted to it, as some are.

Forgiefe mec, but I didn't know they still taught old English. Hope they don't start using it in Wordle!

My only complaint with Wordle is that sometimes you have more valid words to try than you have guesses. For example, in three guesses I found that the last 4 letters are "atch" with only 3 guesses left. In "hard mode" you must use all the letters you have found in each subsequent guess. So what is the answer batch, catch, hatch, latch, match, patch, watch...

I play it but I'm not addicted. It's hard to become addicted when there is only one puzzle per day.

I would be interested in seeing what everyone's favorite opening word is. Mine is "stare".

Dodie

Mine is "stein". And by the way, try Wordle Unlimited. Same game, same graphics but unlimited games per day.

What’s a “ghoti”?

A hottie . The "g" is silent like the "p" in swimming (think about it).

I ordered a 1969 Chevelle SS Sport from the GM rep at the PX in Nam in Dec 1968 for $2400 flat, it was delivered to an LA dealer in late Jan '69 after I returned home and got discharged. I remember worrying about money when gas hit .65 gallon while we were on our Honeymoon in Dec '73 and Jan '74. I was used to aprx .35 a gallon in the LA Metro Area up until then.

I loved that car!! I wanted one when I returned from Germany in '69 but it was too late in the year to find one. I later bought a '68 Impala SS convertible as a consolation. I think I still have an 8-track tape around here somewhere.

I pumped gas at my Dad's "service" station on Highway 101 in CA in the 50's when gas was in the low .30s. He made 3 cents/gallon. Occasional gas wars dropped the price to the low .20s. Every new car model back then had a unique hiding place for their gas filler tube.

It was my very first try at Retouch and I was planning to start with a JPG file, this being the image I took especially to make sure the camera otherwise operated normally, which it did. I had the image on the screen when I made the attempt.
I am not familiar with the term/procedure you mention, "...lock the image". I may have locked it accidentally but not on purpose. How do I check on this, and if it is locked, how do I unlock the image?

Trapper1

I tried to duplicate your problem on my D5600 but couldn't. I even tried locking the image. I understand that the message you received is generic and is usually caused by a camera setting. Unfortunately, the exact setting causing the problem is not provided.

I'm not an expert on this camera. But you might want to look at the "recent settings" menu to see what you have changed that might cause this. Or, as a last resort is a factory reset in order?
