There was an on line stream of a race I wanted to watch, but when I tried it was not available for the US. I set my VPN to go to a server in England, and suddenly it was available, no problem. Try that if you have a problem.

Same here, mostly. Monaco and Indy were "must see" broadcasts, since in past years I've been to both. NASCAR not so much, I saw maybe 20 laps of the 600, in the middle somewhere. F1 is about the only one where I try to see every race. I've been a long time fan since Rob Walker was writing for Road and Track. I've actually went to 4 F1 races back in the day, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Montreal and Monaco. Recently I've only been going to lower level stuff, Vintage racing at Thompson and Lime Rock, or some regional SCCA stuff. And to complete my "car guy" picture, there's a Sunbeam in my garage...

Had that happen at my first house, shortly after the burner had been serviced. Middle of a cold night, of course. Pressing the reset wouldn't start the burner, so I lit my propane torch and stuck it in through an inspection port and hit reset. Started right up and warmed up the house. The service guy came the next day (different guy from before), and found the igniter contacts were incorrectly positioned, so sometimes there would be a spark, sometimes not.

My Mom had a similar issue back when I was still at home. The step up transformer for the igniter went intermittent. I still have that transformer, using it for a climbing arc. when it feels kike working, of course.

What got me started? I played trumpet for a couple years in elementary school, but that was it. During high school (mid ‘60’s), I usually had a radio on while doing homework. A local radio station (Boston area) had a DJ playing, not the rock and roll of the day, but jazz, big band stuff, Sinatra, etc. His name was Jonathan Schwartz.
My old vacuum tube radio had a 100 foot antenna attached, so every night I could also tune around the AM band and listen to stations up and down the east coast. From NY, the Night Bird, the Milk Man’s Matinee, even WBT from Charlotte, NC, which at the time was playing good music, too.

I listened to Schwartz again when he moved to WNEW, and later, when I was doing a stupid long commute and found him doing drive time on WQEW, before that station went down hill.

All 4 of my kids were in the music program in high school, especially in the marching band, that won championships around the northeast. With the high school concert band, all had the opportunity to play at Symphony Hall in Boston, and my son played at Rose Hall (Lincoln Center Jazz Venue) as part of the “Essentially Ellington” program.

I’m still listening, hunting for interesting groups on YouTube, and with several jazz stations programmed into my Bose Soundtouch. And there are a couple local old style big bands I see in person once and a while.

In any serious electric car accidents with extensive structural damage, is there any history of rescue workers getting zapped by the high voltages in the battery systems? Anything over about 40V is supposed to be a hazard for humans. Has a battery pack ever been damaged to the point where it internally shorts and some serious arcing starts? If there was a ruptured fuel tank in the vehicle the EV crashed into...

Nice set. The Sunbeam is interesting since it seems to have a Ford V6 conversion with a neat Sunbeam valve cover.

Right. The original Sunbeam 4 cylinder engine has been replaced by what is likely the 2.6 L or 2.8 L V6, as was used in German Capris and several domestic Ford products back in the day. It fits right in, no major changes needed. IIRC there were kits available to support this swap. I've driven one that a friend built with an automatic transmission, and it was a sweet ride, in some ways better than my Tiger

If you came straight off a transformer you'd have AC, not the DC you require. Again, look for a lab power supply. They're protected against shorts, you can crank the voltage up and down, set current limits, etc. And the $120 you mentioned earlier could get you a couple of these supplies.

Search for Lab Power Supplies on Amazon. Plenty of options under $100 that should do the job for you, and be more reliable than a cheap battery charger.

I've seen similar things on my doorbell camera and another security camera in by back yard. A very fine fiber such as a spider web is drifting around right in front of the IR light and lens. I know that's what mine are because occasionally the spider shows up on the camera, tending his web.

Problem solved. It appears the Xfinity access point developed an issue, deciding not to pass on certain types of signals, such as Nest or Wemo stuff, and some of the stuff my daughter uses. Everything else, the normal Google stuff, CNN, PBase, all still worked fine.

Anyway, Xfinity agreed the problem was in the firmware in their box, and the new AP arrived tonight. All is back to normal.

Six cylinder in a '55 Chevy? Yes, my aunt had one. Four doors, three on the tree, too. She had to learn to drive in that after my Uncle passed, a process observed with great amusement by the rest of the family. Her next car was a '67 Nova, 6 cyl automatic. She never understood why so many younger men kept asking if it was for sale...

Nope, no intentional changes. HOWEVER, in a parallel investigation, Xfinity thinks there could be an issue with our wifi access point, and is sending a new one. Weird, all the other wifi stuff, PC's Laptops, printer, all mostly work fine, except for a minor problem my daughter which led to a call to xfinity.. We'll see if that makes a difference.

My wifi analyzer tells me everyone is following the rules on channel usage, so interference should not be an issue.

I'm just curious... Suddenly my two Nest cameras and two Nest thermostats aren't connecting to the Nest apps on my phone and on my PC. My wifi network otherwise is OK, and the thermostat says it is happily connected to my wifi network.

I'm wondering if the problem is back at Google/Nest. Is anyone else having problems?

Heard a bang from the attached garage one morning. Looked in, all looked ok, no damage to my antique car, etc. Later walked into the garage and noticed a small chunk of brick on the floor... One of the coil springs on the garage door had broken. It was right next to the chimney, and expended it's released energy on that. I replaced the springs on both doors after that, with the steel cables inside to contain any future failures.
