A visit to coastal Maine is worth the trip, and among its pretty coastal communities is the beautiful town of Camden, ME.

I think you captured the schooner Mary Day and maybe the Grace Bailey? Such an incredible area to visit and shoot!

I am thinking about upgrading to a full frame camera and like the price point that the Nikon D750 is at. I have thought about the new Sony, A7III however with the current pricing on the Nikon is tough to pass up. I will most likely buy with the 24-120 offered and at some point use the cash saved to buy another lense most likely a long range zoom.

I have done a fair amount of research and would like to know if some of you have had real time experience with this camera and what you think? I know they have had a few issues with the 24-120 lense and some initial firmware problems.

Any thoughts would be appreciated?

My first FF camera was a D750 and I have not had an issue with it and it really is everything I have ever wanted in a digital SLR. No software issues but I think there may be a firmware update if you want to use Nikon's AF-P lenses.

Have fun

Evidently there were two Amistads. One was an 18th century Spanish schooner, the other a 19th century French frigate.
There are typically no yard arms on a schooner, there are on a frigate. A schooner has gaffs and booms.
Of all photos shown here, one has gold curly trim, one does not. Unfortunately similar shots from the same viewpoint may help discern which one is which (Amistad/Morgan). It's hard to tell if the bow sprint on the Morgan is longer.

Having seen the Amistad up close on a number of occasions, I can say definitively that this vessel was built with arms

I've just returned from a photo excursion (been gone a month).
The photo below is from this trip.
In the photo the sailing ship Armistad (the ship from the movie) lays at anchor in the harbor at Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. Please view in the download. Thanks for looking.

I saw the Amistad being built at Mystic and, for a while, it was permanently moored between trips in New Haven. It still stops here regularly. A beautiful ship, despite the historical vessel (La Amistad) it is named after ....Great shot, nonetheless!

As far as bases go- Barksdale is certainly one of the better looking places. Though, some are of the opinion the Air Force spends their money on looks, the Army on weapons and the Navy on penicillin...

I wouldn't know 'bout any of that...

...and you're right, HOT! but not today...

I lived in Northern Maine when Loring AFB was still active.....they seem to like to use our Main Street for bomb runs (or so it seemed)!

Spent a couple of days at Barksdale AFB near Shreveport, Louisiana… had a few moments to waste so, grabbed a few “tourist” shots…

Having just watched “Fail-Safe” on TV, that BUFF (B 52) has an eerieness about it as it flys off. Great set though

Funny you say that as I had a Yellowjacket sting me inside my ear. Had to get a shot for the swelling and a salve as well. God, that was decades ago and I had forgotten all about it.

We would usually get them out by putting some alcohol in the ear.......after something like that, I’d need some alcohol alright

That's an interesting post...when I worked on the Emergency Room, we would occasionally get individuals with bees in their ears. They usually wouldn't get stung but their buzzing that close to the eardrum would be enough to knock them off their feet!

If you have a credible camera store fairly nearby, enquire whether they rent cameras. If so you can try out the candidates that make your 'possibles' list. Just handling a camera in-store will show how convenient the buttons, viewfinder, LCD screen are for you. You are the only one who has to live with your purchase, so take your time.

I agree.....the best place to start is with a good, local, brick and mortar camera shop where the emphasis is on the right product for the individual and their needs and not the cost

This is not a question about cameras or lenses per se. But I am asking for your- witty fellow UHHers' - suggestions. I am getting a female Golden Retriever puppy who will be my photo trip companion on my future treks out with my camera. We will be out there, in the great outdoors, shooting landscapes and Western Wandering Vistas together. I am trying to think of a photography-related appropriate name for her. I want it to be a short, simple, easy to say name, but not a generic "nikon" or "cannon" or such; nor any name that could be mispronounced- such as "focus." I'm sure there is something fun and witty, but can't think of any.
My daughter used to have an adopted three-legged dog I nick named "tripod." That was fun.
Any suggestions will be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Be honest !!! If you are out shooting and encounter another photographer, do you sneak a sideways glance to see what gear they are using? If the other photographer is an attractive member of your preferred gender which do you check out first - the camera body or the photog's body?

Yes.......................

This is, in fact, the proper way to carry the Nikkor 1200-1700mm f/5.6-8.0 super telephoto lens. Weighing in at 36 pounds and measuring nearly 3 feet in length, the manual focus lens was introduced in 1993 and had a hefty price tag of $60,000.

Well, Lorraine & I are back home again...we had a great holiday in Melbourne last week, we arrived home Saturday night. Unlike Adelaide, where the weather was awful, strong winds, bush fires and dust storms, we had great weather in Melbourne. I'm not very well though, tried to do too much I guess...Lorraine also has a mild concussion, she tried to walk through the large glass doors to our hotel and banged her head really bad...if she's not better by tomorrow, it's off to the doctors.
Here are just a few pics from the week.
