I've just returned from a photo excursion (been gone a month).
The photo below is from this trip.
In the photo the sailing ship Armistad (the ship from the movie) lays at anchor in the harbor at Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. Please view in the download. Thanks for looking.

Which of these two ships is your photo of.

Ships

Amistad/Amitie, an 18th-century schooner that transported Acadians from France (French Canada?) to Louisiana

La Amistad, a 19th-century Spanish schooner on which kidnapped Africans meant for the slave trade rebelled and took control, becoming a notable incident of the abolition movement

This is not the Amistad. This is a full rigged ship not a Spanish Schooner... It is however a very beautiful photograph.

This is the Charles W. Morgan a Nantucket Whaling ship. It s the last of its kind in the world (wood). Was restored at Mystic for a huge amount of $$ several years ago.

According the guide at Mystic my photo is of the of the Amistad. The ship used in the movie which is currently (at least in the beginning of April) in Mystic for some repairs. The Charles W. Morgan is a different ship which is a permanent feature at Mystic and is moored just down the harbor a short distance. The photo below is the Morgan. Please view the photo of the Morgan in the download format.

I may stand corrected, however, the ship that your beautiful photo depicts is not a schooner. I will see if I can get additional details as I have a fried that is a member and donor to the seaport. Did you notice if the hull was wood or steel?

BTW I am not trying to be a killjoy. Just wanted to alert you that that may not be the ship you think it is.

Also it looks like they turned the Morgan around, perhaps for winter reasons. Sorry for mixing them up.

OK finally found my files on this one. This ship is the "Joseph Conrad" she was presented to the Mystic Seaport Association on 08-23-1947 by an act of Congress. This ship has been one of the main attraction of the seaport up until the Morgan refit was completed several years ago. The Conrad is in need of repairs which the seaport is now beginning to undertake. Here are a couple of hand help shots from a moving boat back in 2015.

I hope this clears this up. Not sure who told you the ship was the "Amistad" but it is not. Sorry...

I'm just a photographer from south Florida. I bought my ticket into Mystic and took the tour. I might know the difference between a schooner and a canoe but beyond that I'll believe the guide. I'll be happy to be enlightened as to ships. For the record, the photos were taken after the tour because it takes me longer to create an image than the guide was willing to give me. Thus I returned after the tour to get my photos. There was also a viking ship (under a cover) and the "Mystic Whaler" (name on the hull) that were moored at the site. As for their locations, I would have preferred that the ships were moored in open water (would be a better photo).

And for the record, I'm not at all offended by your comments. I'm just a photographer---I care about images.

Evidently there were two Amistads. One was an 18th century Spanish schooner, the other a 19th century French frigate.
There are typically no yard arms on a schooner, there are on a frigate. A schooner has gaffs and booms.
Of all photos shown here, one has gold curly trim, one does not. Unfortunately similar shots from the same viewpoint may help discern which one is which (Amistad/Morgan). It's hard to tell if the bow sprint on the Morgan is longer.

Larry your shot is great. Beautiful rendition of the Joseph Conrad :-) The Armistad they made the movie with is a Baltimore Schooner. The guide gave you the wrong information. Sorry! see attached photos of the Armistad. Bob

Thanks for all the additional information. I seem to be getting a much needed education of sailing ships.
