I use a iMac Retina 5 32GB of memory and 3TB hard drive on an I7 processor running Yosemite and Capture NX-2 and View NX-2 works under this operating system. One little cravat, I had to pay a software company $99 to convert the install disk to work for installing on Yosemite since this was a new iMac and it came with Yosemite as it's operating system.

Bruce. Is your drive SSD or HDD?

This is a really exceptional series of flower shots. I, too, use and love Capture NX2. I know I have only scratched the surface of what it can do but it really does work well!

Thanks. I found it amazing how these softwares interpret beautiful colors and removes axial color aberrations, corrects white balance, etc. etc. postop.

I (and a lot of people) agree with you, it is to bad that both these software packages are no longer supported. One thing that holds me back from going to El Capitan on my iMac is that I will lose Capture NX2 as it will not work on this operating system.

Thanks for visiting. I too use iMac with 32 GB of memory because I shoot with a D800e big files. I stayed with Maverick OSX just to keep Capture NX2 and View NX2 As of now Nikon's Software is not supported in El Capitan.

Looking for advise. It's so easy to get the lights overexposed. Need advise on settings to start from, maybe some example pics. Is dusk better than after dark? A big problem is wind outdoors, can't see a solution to that other than no breezes. My biggest problem is glare from the lights, reduces apparent sharpness. Your thoughts and examples would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you take time to learn how to use Nikon's own software Capture NX2 and View NX2 you will be rewarded. In my humble opinion only Nikon(if you are a nikon shooter)understand the algorithm of the Nef raw file.
Judge for yourself the following photos and see if you will agree with me and please don't call me a masochist as one blogger labeled me in another thread for enjoying processing my photos in View NX2 and Capture NX2

I got view NX2. Had it for several years. Never could figure out how to do one thing on it. Still in the computer and I open it once in a while just to frustrate myself!

Send me some raw nef photo files and I will guide you step by step on how to process raw files in view NX2

Just got my refurb D7100 yesterday. Did not include software CD, but card inside manual directed to go to Nikon website to download “the latest version of” the software.

Installation process became stuck at “Additional Installation” stage and never proceeded to final “Summary” stage. Had to do “opt-cmd-del” to force-quit the installer. Happened on both the iMac and the MacBook Pro.

Running 10.11.1 “El Capitan” OS.

Do I even need this software? I’d previously just used iPhoto.

I am often confused when watching other photographers use bounce flash. My understanding of bounce flash is when you point the flash head away from the main subject, with the idea that the light from the flash will bounce off something and be a softer, larger light source.

So here is when I get confused. I have noticed some photographers will point the flash up, or up and to the side when they are outside. What is the light bouncing off of, the stars, the sky?

Can someone explain (or provide a good link) to explain how this pointing the flash toward the sky, or a 50+ foot ceiling works.

And just to be clear, these are people being paid for event photography. So they must know something I do not know or understand.

The question concerned an L bracket, not a ball head.

I use Kirk brackets and they do not include a leveling device

Sorry. What i meant to say was get an L-bracket compatible with your camera and mount it on the BH-55 LR which has a leveling base.
