Trust me, he's right. I'm a long time sufferer of "I can figure this out..." and now all my pics, 7000+ just in lightroom alone, have lost their connection with my pc and all are "Missing," I want to shoot myself. Tried a few YouTube tutorials, it would be so very time consuming to find each individual image or even album. Anyway, that's my issue, but an example of learning how to do things right.

You’ll have to make yourself more computer savvy to accomplish your goal. There are lots of ways to catalogue your photos but if you don’t know what the computer can do versus what you’re trying to make it do you won’t be able to retrieve them with any sense of predictability. Get yourself some training.

WOW!!! I've never seen one at that angle! Was it charging you or did it just not see you?? Recently I was kayaking, apparently near the tree where a great blue had a nest, and it got very agitated and vocal and flew overhead. Only a cell shot and nothing so elegant as yours! Timing is everything!!

No experience with Olympus, tho it's good to hear good things since I recently bought their TG 5. But the same thing happened to my Nikon 18-300 lens with a tripod incident and Nikon fixed the outer glass that broke and it it seems to function as before. But VERY EXPENSIVE. $395!!! Including shipping. Just my 2 cents.

quote=Beejank]My tripod went over last week and my Olympus 7-14 wide angle snapped where the lens goes into the camera. Thankfully my OM 1 Mll seems fine. I am considering sending the lens into Olympus repair to see if they can fix it.

But I have heard some bad stories from photo buddies regarding what has happened at other manufacturers when getting lenses repaired - - seems with some frequency, they are never the same again.

Has anyone had any first hand experience with lens repair at Olympus?

Would really appreciate any feedback?

Thanks!
Don't redo a thing!!! What you are doing is beyond fabulous and generous and if you get called on grammatical baloney that person is very narrow minded.

I would suggest that you go back and break this into paragraphs, with a space between each. And add a space after each period and comma.

My Dad was a Naval Aerial Combat Photographer in the Pacific Theater in WW2. I still have his camera used mostly. I'm very proud of his accomplishments and phenomenal photos.

I love this! And I also believe there is some truth to the article for people like me who take far too many pics, the majority being, truth be told, more photojournalism than true art. My memory is bad anyway. I need to pay attention to what Mr. Adam's taught.

quote=lsupremo]Yes, it does undermine your memory if all you do is snap your shutter, but as Ansel Adams told us during a session “if you can’t make it bigger or more important, don’t press the button and just remember forever it as it was”.
Wow! Have I learned a lot today. And feel pretty guilty for all the times I've tried to photograph some moments at weddings without even considering asking permission from the bride and groom OR the paid photographers! The only time I was asked to stop was when, just before the ceremony, I tried to set up my tripod right where I was standing for when the bride walked down the aisle, test shots were coming out blurry...poor me...
Yes, right there in the 3rd or 4th row, next to the aisle. I did embarrass myself and anyone who knew me! It was extremely rude, self serving and outrageous even, but at that moment all I could think of was grabbing (yes, best word in retrospect) that great shot of my gorgeous, favorite niece to share with her and her groom. And I have been asked by most of the couples later for the pics.
Wow, in retrospect. Appalling even! And all the times I got pissed when someone got in MY way of a shot! I did think I was being respectful in most cases, never standing in the way of the pros or other guests, not intentionally. But now I can see pretty clearly how hard the role of pro photog can be. Sad part is, with my less than ideal conditions, especially in challenging light conditions, I never really shared many shots with the couple. It really is my NEED to take pictures that came first. So hard for us to just sit back and let someone else have all the fun!
I can't change past behavior but I can certainly move forward. I do think the OP handled himself well, and I share his pain. I think NO pics is too harsh. Guick guidelines better approach. It takes away from the experience, yes I know, it's the bride and groom's day not ours! of some guests. But even I would never take a cell pic of the couple during the ceremony and post it before the ceremony was finished! This is THEIR story to tell!
Thank you for this interesting topic!

Good answer!

I’ve been a candid photojournalist at several wedding receptions. In each case, I had an advance agreement with the bride and her photographer that I would stay out of the way of the other pro(s), and not duplicate their scenes or setups. I would either video the ceremony, or not photograph it at all.

Unfortunately, we live in an age when getting a cellphone photo is more important than experiencing the occasion. The most disgusting, saddest thing to see is 20 people with iPhones crawling all over each other at the front row of an event, each reaching for the best photo.

I have no problem with pros who have exclusivity clauses in their contracts, and no problems with couples who agree to them. If it gives the pros a monopoly, so be it. It’s the families’ day, and someone in the wedding party is paying the bills. Every invitee is a spectator, and should abide by the couple’s requests.

Receptions are often a little different. That’s where many pros have struck a detente of sorts. The bride and groom announce that attendees should not take photos of any “setup” scenes where the pros are working, but they are free, and encouraged, to photograph anything else of interest. This honors the 1980s’ “disposable camera on each reception table” practice, by using guests’ cellphones.

It’s wise to check your sense of entitlement at the door of any event, until you know you have permission to use a camera.

You are probably asking the poster. But for me, for wet conditions, like being in my kayak. And hopefully it will be a fairly decent all around camera when I don't feel like lugging my DSLR around.

I can't believe what I just did...I looked at your first web site and bought the "best" recommendation from Amazon, and it is supported by several folks on here; The Olympus T- G5! On a financing plan, no interest. And the teleconverter that goes with it. AND a floation strap, among other things. In the short run this will make me feel better about dropping my Nikon 18-300 lens, while I wait repair, most likely not in time for my vacation. And I really wanted a reasonably good waterproof camera anyway to take on my kayak excursions. And paying in monthly installments, no financing if pd in full in 12 months, no problem, it won't break the bank. Thanks for posting this subject!
