Up before sunrise yesterday with the mission of taking photos of Sand Hill Cranes. Things did not go quite as planned. I took photos of a lot of stuff but very few of Cranes. Here are a few I did get. Their feathers are really a grey-blue color. The brown comes from the mud they rub into their feathers.

For some reason I see a lot of "abstract art" in nature.

..an immature, but hungry, red-tailed hawk. I blame his parents for not teaching him how to hunt with more efficiency. The rodent he is after is a full grown groundhog.

I see a rodent & I'm hungry

I'll just practice my strike a few times.

Now where do I grab him?

I may have missed the "tree landing, wing space" lesson.

Time to move on.

...in post processing has been my monitor. I've finally decided to open the purse a bit to improve that area. I'm looking for 23" to 25" max size, my available space is small. Want In Line Switching(IPS), 1920X1080 at least, acceptable speed, rotatable, and decent calibration settings. My budget is $300 or less. Open to any suggestions or am I wishing for too much. Thanks in advance for your input.

I have been watching this girl(I think) for several months. At first she was an unsure huntress. Now she is grown up and deadly. Did not see the end of this dive, but I bet she got her prey.

R.G. - Valuable point.
Country boy - My lens is a 400mm f5.6 & a child's medium sleeve fits the lens exactly & I am also too lazy to sew material.

...like I am? My Scottish nature I guess. If you shoot wildlife with a big white Canon L lens you really need to use a camo sleeve of some type. You can spend $70 or more(on Amazon) or you can go to a sporting goods store & buy a child's camouflage T-shirt for $10, cut the sleeve off & slip it over the lens.

I wear a 3-D camo jacket, face covering & dark green pants when I go looking for wildlife. As others mentioned, most wildlife key on movement, so be slow & do not walk directly toward the bird or deer. Not mentioned is GET LOW. I take a lot pics of water bird sitting or laying down on the ground.

Each day is colder than the last. As winter progresses I'm spending more time watching the birds from inside the house.

My wife & I work, volunteer, for a breed specific dog rescue organization here in Michigan. Most of our dogs come from breeders(puppy mills) and most are damaged physically & emotional and require extensive vet work. A good healthy young dog comes with a price tag of approx. $300 to $350, older dogs are less depending on several factors. That price doesn't even come close to paying the vet bill for 99% of our dogs. Imagine a 7 yr old dog so frightened that it can't be touched, with bad & broken teeth, heart-worm disease, mange, fleas etc. Now imagine that same dog a yr later made whole, up for adoption at $200. Cheap at twice the price. Our first dog we fostered was frightened of grass. She had never see grass & couldn't stand to have it touching her. She had sired 5 litters & was no longer of any value to her owner. Her fate was "rescue" or "death". She now lives with a loving family in Wisconsin. ADOPT FROM A RESCUE

You made a great work of art from something that most people would pass buy. I judge photos by their ability to strike an emotional chord within me. If this were mine I would have it on the wall so I could see it every day.
