Photomatix is like crack; you just can't do a little. Try the NIX ColorEFX or Topaz Studio and the Adjust filter.... For that, you need an editing program that supports layers.

Ok... used the Photomatix output as a layer on top of DxO Photolab 3 raw develop to TIF and used Affinity Photo to align layers and set HDR layer to 40% plus inpainting to clear up an eye sore sign. Not as crunchy.
Could probably use a bit of sharpening...

If you editing software supports it, you should also look at 10 bit HDR (HDR10 or HDR10+). It will give you "higher maximum luminance and use at least a 10-bit dynamic range". Latest version of Affinity Photo can take advantage of HDR monitors. But... they won't be cheap (yet).

I'll try that. I can blend the Photomatix output with a layer using Affinity Photo (don't like AP's HDR as much).
But from the "artsy" side, I do tend to do more crunchy looks for old cars / vehicles. These aren't as "crunchy" but just enough to get the rust to pop out a bit more.

Turn down the clarity or the adaptive exposure on whatever HDR front end you are using. Numbers 1 and 2 are good compositions, but too crunchy.

Thanks... I was going for a bit crunchy.
Used Photomatix Pro.
I'll try out a couple other settings.

My DXO account says the upgrade price to Photolab 3 elite is 139 dollars but on sale for 99 dollars. Where’re is the 69.99 upgrade?

It depends on what you are upgrading from.
I submitted a ticket to DxO and from what I could make out from their response was:
Upgrading from:
Photolab 2 Essentials (with Nik): $99
Photolab 2 Elite: $69.99
Photolab 3 Essentiald: $49.99

... But unfortunately those who purchase software a month or two before it's replaced by a new version are often left with a bad taste in their mouths when they have to pay for an upgrade.

So how is this different that a PS/Lightroom subscription!?
BTW, I've mostly been using Affinity Photo but liked Photolab's RAW processing better. I'm sure when Affinity goes from their 1.x versions to the 2.0 I'll be sending them some $$'s.

Since the Nik Collection will still continue to be sold with a free copy of PhotoLab 2 Essential for the time being, you are not entitled to a free upgrade to PhotoLab 3 Essential. However, you can upgrade to PhotoLab 3 Essential for $49.99 or to PhotoLab 3 Elite for $69.99. If you plan on upgrading I strongly suggest you spend the extra $20 and upgrade to the more powerful Elite version. So, to answer your question, no, you really shouldn't be irritated.

So I just upgraded to PhotoLab 2 Elite in September... I would hope to get a better break in price than another $49.99 to get to version 3! Slightly irritated :/

I use the NIKKOR 10-20mm 1:4.5-5.6G. It came as a bundle with a macro (Micro NiKKOR 40mm 1:2.8G) from both Nikon and B&H. So far very happy with the 10-20 and using Affinity Photo it has built in lens correction for the little distortion that shows up. Review at:
