I move to ban the use of the phrase "walk around lens"

Any seconds?

When one leaves the house, apartment, tent, RV, etc. to take pictures I assume they have some idea as to what they will be taking pictures of. Therefore, they will take the lens (or lenses) that is best suited for their needs. So instead of asking what is a good "walk around lens", ask what kind of lens do I need to take great photographs of...... or will the lens I have be sufficient for my needs?

My interpretation of a "Walk Around Lens" is one that is not too big, not too heavy, yet will allow you to take a number of different shots like close-up, distant objects, street scenes, etc. and that you won't have to carry extra lenses just to cover all those possibilities. Therefore, I personally will continue to use those forbidden words. Sorry folks!

Just read two pages talking about "walk around lens" - no discussion what so ever about what the person asking the question will be photographing. Am I the only one who wonders "what the heck is going on?" Cameras that will do everything for us, guess the next quest is for a lens for all purposes, even select the focal length.

Yes, I know that I am probably too late, but at my age nothing is too late (I hope) ;) ;)

Just hope I don't hear the sound of one hand clapping.

WHOAAA!!!
I just checked Adoramas site and the price has now been increased to $54.95! Looks like they saw what a good deal this was and decided to bump up the profit margin a little! Still a good buy though as nothing else on the market can touch it in the price range.

It has now gone up to $69.95!

There are great photos posted here and I am curious as to what camera you are using. Some photos posted are much better in contrast, color and clarity than others. I am just curious as to what type of camera most people are using.I am in no way being judgemental. I have close to 75 cameras (mostly film type rangefinders) and have always been as interested in the camera being used as much the photo. Thanks

Are those who shoot manual TECHNOPHOBIC?

I love "Manual" so much that I have been working for the past 3 years converting my clothes washer to manual. It now takes me all day to do one load of laundry and I have eliminated the dryer altogether as I hang them out to dry. The dish washer is next! Actually, I'm just kidding of course and I shudder to think about what it would be like to have my car be all manual. I prefer Aperture priorty with all the rest on auto. I think the camera does a better job (most of the time) than I do

To restore defaults on the D7000 There are two red boxes one at the delete button and the other is at the metering button Push those two button and hold for 5 sec to reset to default settings

NO NO NO!!!!

Those are the quick format buttons and will format the SD card - you will lose all your pictures unless you are using the No2 card as backup.

OOOOOOOps! Sorry Graham! I was wrong! Finally put on my glasses and saw that you were right! The red buttons are "format" It is the two buttons marked with a little green dot next to them that does the reset. Fortunately, I have never pushed the two red buttons but now that I know it will be quicker to reformat!

I'm not sure which green buttons - perhaps we have different buttons on our cameras. But tanks.

On my D7000 the two buttons to reset are red. One on the back left and the other on top right.

Hi Dook,

I was looking for 3 car pictures but I'll take those warm beach ones any day. If I were to go to the beach here today my feet would probably freeze in the sand!

I once ordered 4 resin chairs from an on-line retailer for $17.00 each. When I received the invoice it showed the $17.00 each for the chairs but added $70.00 each for shipping, Needless to say I quickly canceled that order!

I was wondering if other non-American residents have had a massive price hike in postage costs from the US. I am a regular ebay buyer (mainly photographic gear, electronics, & bulk buys of CD/DVD blanks).

Postage is usually free from Hong Kong & Germany. Postage from the UK in reasonable/acceptable, but is absolutely horrendous from the US. I'll quote two examples...

I recently bought a barrel & key for the LH door of my old DeVille. The part was $28-postage to Australia was $32. Today, I was browsing ebay for a Sigma 1.4X TC. I purchased one from Hong Hong. Why?

The same item was available from HK & the US for about the same price. Free postage from HK--$63 postage from the US. Obviously, Aussies won't be buying much from US dealers. US postage to AU used to be about the same as from the UK, but not anymoe.

Anybody else noticed this price hike??

My wife has a Panasonic Lumix DMC LX-5 and I recently ordered a non-panasonic battery for it. When we plugged it in we got a screen message telling us that the camera would not work with non panasonic batteries! But then Panasonic is a very big battery maker!

Panasonic was one of the first Camera mfrs to really equip their cameras to not work on third party batteries. This was particularly true in their consortium partnership on the 4/3 and micro 4/3 sensor/lens mount.

I have used the Olympus 4/3 DSLRs since the E1 and E300. While the Panasonics were shutting out 3rd party batteries with great vigor, those who were using Olympus 4/3 were using quite a range of third party batteries, quite comfortably and with good result.

Hi Saichiez,

What really bothered me was that the non Panasonic battery that I ordered was a good brand and that seller showed that as the correct battery for that camera. It's too bad they don't warn you! Oh well, lesson learn't!
