Thanx,
You are right, I have 25000 shutter count now, and the d7200 has been a good camara,
there is a lot of life in it ,
whatever my reason for upgrading is, just curious on what next upgrade should be,

I updated from a D7200, which I still have, to a D850. Call it GAS if you want. I had been wanting to go full frame for awhile and since many are jumping on the mirrorless bandwagon, D850's are available at some very attractive prices.

My D850 has a low shutter count and unless I have a strong GAS attack should last me for years to come. Something to consider though is lenses if you go FX. Something else to consider is computer limitations. The D850 files are huge compared to the D7200 and I suspect many newer cameras are the same. I knew this all going in but was willing to make the jump so now I will upgrade my computer. Something I needed to do anyway.

The learning curve for me wasn't so sharp going from the D7200 to the D850. Mirrorless? One day perhaps if I decide to. For now I'm satisfied but we all know that can change. 😀

Congratulations on buying a superb camera. You will love it. Mine is 4 years old and I am still discovering little tricks with it.

I bought used. A little over 10000 clicks. At may age and judging by the clicks on my D7200, it may be my last camera. I'm subject to GAS attacks but rarely.

I've been there. Better to have things shipped with signature required. It can screw up a whole day waiting for the delivery but unless you absolutely can't be there it's the way to go.

You would be surprised how useful a 12 or 14-mm lens can be. I have the Nikon 14-24 and the 16-35, and the 14-30 z lens. I usually take the 16-35 when shooting with a DSLR because of the weight. Both lenses are very useful for interior shots as well as good for wide-open scenic shots where a lot of sky is a main part of the scene. Good for capturing the night sky as well. While the 24 you have will do most of what you want a wide-angle for, keep an eye out for a good deal on a wider lens. You won't regret having one.

They would fill a gap. You're probably right. I'd rather have it and not need it that need it and not have it.

I used the 24-70 non-VR for many years on my D810, and previous model DSLR’s and SLR’s.
Did not have any particular problems with ‘Shake’. (If the lighting situation seemed marginal at the time, would occasionally use a monopod or, less so, tripod.
(An excellent lens. Fwiw, over time my only minor dissatisfaction was that too frequently I wanted just a little more reach.)

I'll have the 24-70, the 70-200, and Tamron 150-600. I'm trying to cover a wide margin but. I think I can skip anything below 24.

I have the non-VR version and never considered upgrading to the VR model. It is a very sharp lens which I use (along with a flash) mostly for people photography. Most of this shooting was done indoors and as someone else mentioned, I would drag the shutter so there was a hint of detail in the background so it did not look like the people were pasted on a black background. Recently though I've been doing those kind of shots with the z24-70 f4. If Nikon comes out with just the right body in the z-line (a z8 perhaps), I may go all-in with the z cameras and sell off most of my F lenses. This along with the two other "Holy Trinity" lenses would be the last to go. It is a very good lens and I can absolutely recommend it even without VR.

The Nikkor pre-VR 24-70mm is a superb optic. I had a choice of either the non-VR or the VR version when I purchased the lens. I chose the non-VR version because there were some data to suggest it was a tad sharper than the VR version. I am 73 years old and love this lens.

Thanks

I have the 28-70 F/2.8, and have been very pleased with the results. It's a heavy, solid lens, that you can get from KEH for around $500. Lack of VR hasn't been that much of an issue.

Thank you.

I'm ready to make the switch to mirrorless after using a Nikon D60 since it's release in 2008. I have only the kit lens. I've narrowed it down to a Nikon Z6II and a Sony a7III. I will be using it for general photography (landscape, action shots and portrait). Just can't seem to make up my mind. I've relied on the opinion of all that contribute to this forum. I could use all the input I can get. I would also value any advise about alternate recommendations.

I look forward to your replies.

Go ahead. I gave in too. I didn't go mirrorless but went with a D-850. Perhaps someday I will go mirrorless but at my age, barring some accident or catastrophic failure, the 850 should last me the rest of my life.
