of course there may be some red, but the docs try to minimize that.

Yepper, the docs would always mention to the newbies that it isn't "bloodless surgery" but this is for pictures. That's when I got to to run the show and tell the the surgeons to clean their gloves , cover things (and hide the suction).

Nice captures. Reminds me of days of old at the "office." Funny(?) story, we got a TWX from DC that all media departments were "highly suggested" to "go through our files" and send at least 2 images to central office (IIRC, with no reason given) and to FedEx them back within a day or two. Of course, we gave all the slides to the requestor so all I had was out takes of "stuff" on the light table. I ran up to the OR and took a couple quick images of the assistant chief of surgery (good guy, good friend) processed them and dutifully sent them off. I later transferred to another medical center and when I/we went to the BPA meeting (I think San Antonio) there was this show and tell display with my image of Wayne. I pointed it out to my (new) boss and he got highly PO'ed because he'd put a couple of shooters on the project and had submitted ~20 images. (Most made the slide show that accompanied the display)
He grumbled about it for awhile, then started pointing it out as an image by his new hire. In retrospect I wish I had taken more "people pictures" of those scrubbed in. Sometimes I really do miss it.

No, no, he didn't slam you, he didn't bump you, he didn't nudge you... he *rubbed* you. And rubbin, son, is racin'. Harry Hogge (Robert Duvall), Days of Thunder. (Sorry couldn't resist)

Really nice shots! I like 2,7, and 8 especially well. #2 because the angle is so good it makes the shot look 3D, #7 because it is so different from what we normally see in shots like this (a blue sky and fully detailed plane), and #8 because it really shows how far aviation has advanced in the last 75 years.

Beautimus captures all. Those legacy flights are great. In this case the Corsairs are flying along and the Bug, er Hornet drivers are close to stall speed.

Nice set. Our guy also gets to stay in his vehicle. I'm wondering if he's 'hoofing' it because of traction driving on those GSA approved all season (just not winter) bologna skin tires? Not to be a 'nitpicker' but the company line for "junk mail" is presorted third class. Even though my granddad was a small town postmaster, my next door neighbor taught me that. (Of course I don't think there was that must "presorted" going out before granddad retired in 1969)

I think a lot of today’s words and phrases are systemic in our language because of covid. We all are trying to re-imagine what life was before and hopefully will be once this plague has departed. At that time we will find a way to re-purpose a lot of left over hand sanitizer and plastic shields. That being said, we will need to take a deep dive into the supply chain problems and see if we can get the economy and unemployment to reach amazing highs and lows respectively. It will be awesome when life returns to what we considered “normal” before covid. We must be diligent though and circle back to the beginning of the pandemic and access what we could have done differently to have lessened the disaster that it became.
I think a lot of today’s words and phrases are sys... (show quote)

Well said my good man. Bravo.

People just wanna be "cool".

The one that drives me bonkers is :Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?".
I HATE THAT with a passion!

(Disclaimer: Remember watching cartoons and there was a little angel on on shoulder and a little devil on the other? It's early and the coffee isn't ready so it's the "red guy" with the reply...)

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? (Or for the southernish population, Whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut?) How could you say that?? It's used everywhere. I guess at some point it'll morph into "Huuuuuuuuuuuh?" It's also annoying to my ears. My granddaughter came home from daycare and used that (ahem) wonderful phrase and I looked at her and said "What in the world?" (figuring I could try to cut that #@&^ off at the pass) She gave me this blank stare then her eyes kinda lit up. So for the last month or so she has been using "What in de worrd?" in her best 3 year old voice. Way better.

I’m glad I have a VA hospital to go to. When I go to the ER I get right in. The longest I have ever had to wait was probably 15 minutes.

Thanks for giving the VA a "shout out" and for your service. Having given them 40 years (at 5 stations) I can attest they do a great job. I know someone will probably chime in with their favorite VA "horror story" but considering the constraints of the budget and an ever growing population of Veterans they're doing the best they can. BTW, may I ask which hospital? I was TDY'd to Cochran many moons ago. (Easy to find my way around, it was built with the classic 1950's "H" construction and I'd worked 2 similar constructed hospitals)

Ditto. However, those paint jobs are far better than mine was.

I would ask them to think back to earlier times – any thoughts on specific difficulties during your basic photography learning phase?

More on the darkroom side, but it would it would have been additive color printing on a quad easel (one for each filter, then the final color image) followed by processing the print with a Kodak drum processor. Great fun. We also had to choose a film, take the batteries out of the camera and learn how to make proper images. (Good ol' Tri-X was the bomb)

In my previous life it would be a toss up between getting surgeons to wipe their gloves and clean/cover some of the surgical field, or trying to get someone to hold the front surfaced mirror at the right angle (while keeping the condensation from breathing off of it) while shooting an intraoral, or convincing the kids in pathology/morgue to quit calling at lunchtime. However after 40+ years thinking back it wasn't difficult per se and I learned way more about diabetic foot ulcers and human growth tissue and plastic surgery than your average first year med student. Actually, the most difficult aspect was standing at the copy stand for hours shooting books and flat copy for lectures (and not having the radio).

This guy?

I photographed him at Davidson College in 1975.

He wore very strange shirts for the time.

That's him. I saw him in the fall of '71. IIRC he was in a buckskin type jacket (but because it *was* a half century I could be mistaken.

But, uh, Don took his Chevy to the levee.. Saw him in concert right before American Pie hit it large on the air waves. When asked if he ever got tired of singing it he replied, nope it put his kids through college.
