A LITTLE HISTORY
By 1955 GM was the first company in America to make more than $1 Billion in a single year. It also became the first American corporation to pay taxes of over $1 Billion.
A 1955 Bel Air model became the 50,000,000th car produced by General Motors in the U.S.
1955 Chevrolet
A new V8 engine and a great new look for 1955 made this year a landmark and exciting year for Chevrolet. The literature shouted – New Look! New Life! New Everything! And that just about sums it up.
With modern, lower bodies and the new wraparound windshield these cars exuded style and class. The front “egg crate” grill was Ferrari like and was flanked by wedge-shaped oval parking lamps. To power these, Chevrolet were now using 12 Volt electrics. Engine choice was between the new V8 265 cid and the 6 cylinder 235 cid options.
The family cars were split into 3 series. The One-Fifty, Two-Ten and the Bel Air.
In 1955 Chevrolet produced and sold 1,692,710 Chevrolets. That doesn't include any other GM division.

Hey, there it is, the first car I owned. But when I bought it it was just another used car.
This is my reply to KT's previous topic.

Nice series. Maybe the next set will include my '55 Chevy. Maybe.
My high school senior year!
Another great set. My dad owned a 1955 Buick. I remember it quite well.
'55 Chevy have long been among my favorite cars of all time.
A couple I knew in Colorado many years ago had TWO '55 Nomad wagons... His was black and hers was white. Both were in "show room" condition. (He was a master mechanic at our largest local Chevy dealership. I worked with him there briefly as a "lot boy", washing cars and such over summer vacation.)
Excellent photos and history!

But, uh, Don took his Chevy to the levee..
Saw him in concert right before American Pie hit it large on the air waves. When asked if he ever got tired of singing it he replied, nope it put his kids through college.
Really nice series. I think the cars with the original tires and wheels, why ruin a till then perfect restoration.
Oh my, these are beautiful. My first car was a 1955 Plymouth convertible I bought for $200 in 1962. Absolutely loved it!
Terrific captures of yesteryear!!
