I'm going to disagree with using it's own system. Also do you plan on doing any in home or in studio printing? If so you need a calibration unit that can calibrate a monitor, and a printer. These get to be a little more expensive, but for printing in home, they are needed.

Most calibrating systems, certainly the two you mention can handle many many monitor brands. If you get one that does both monitors and printers, they can run $150 more than just the monitor calibrators.

Thank you. Didn't know some can also calibrate a printer. I do have a decent Canon printer but won't be doing lots of printing. Still good to think about. Thanks.

I have read good things about Colormunki, also I would not go with a system that was mfg dependent, such as the NEC you talk about as if you move away from NEC or purchase a different monitor later you are back to square one with calibration.

Good point. Thanks

If it has its own system, use it.

Thanks for the input. If I stick with NEC calibration I'm assured compatability. I see some other useful points made by others too. Will keep reading. Thanks

To all fellow UHH members, kindly assist with recommending the best option for a monitor calibration system. I am aware of Colormunki and Spyder, but I just purchased a new NEC monitor (PA272W), which I now discovered has its own proprietary system called "Spectraview II".

I'm using LR5 and still learning the ropes. I intend to do both PP for photos and some graphic design too. The new NEC monitor should be my mainstay for awhile, though I might add another monitor for a separate location in the future. If so, I might not purchase another NEC, so I am wondering if the other two calibration systems (Colormunki or Spyder) are truly compatible with my NEC monitor. Ideally, I would own one calibration system that can handle several different brands of monitors.

Thank you all for any and all input.

Agreed. Sony has captured my own interest as well. Sony manufactures the sensors used by Nikon. Sony also managed to cement a deal working with Zeiss on their lenses. The A7 models, along with a few others, are really appealing on several levels.

I probably will stick with Nikon as my collection of Nikon compatible lenses grows. But I will probably venture into Sony too, when I can afford to do so.

Tony Northrup does a commendable job deciphering some of the data related to choosing an integrated system.

Problem here though, this video is not current. Even though this video is less than a year old, most of the issues contained within have been dealt with by newer products already. So, the Canon vs Nikon argument will probably keep rolling on into oblivion.

Guess it was too tempting to stand idly by, watching another fellow SEAL profit from publishing a book, not to mention one or two others.

Gone are the days of gallantry and honor. Somewhere among the ranks, perhaps, the military might play its hand to counter these leaks.

In the end, good men sometimes compromise out of need. It's just a shame to witness it, much less become aware, as do our enemies, of our special forces clandestine tactics. Bless them all.

A minor setback at most. Vast majority of rigs still producing. Economics remain sound for the future.

Several years ago when the USA began making strong progress with alternative energy (wind, solar, algae, etc...) OPEC conspired and dropped prices just long enough to shake out many fledgling pioneers. That concept might be at play again, but this time the elements are different and we will prevail.

Mark these words "the world's oil supply will NEVER run dry, not ever".

Please post camera serial number and pertinent info. Need to know if this is USA or gray market camera. Thanks.

I consistently get around 500 or more shots with factory battery. Live view is a huge drain, so I only use it when necessary. I shoot either RAW or JPEG fine, or both together, and the built in flash when needed. Having a second battery charged up and ready to go makes it easy. Not too many days with over 1,000 clicks. D5300 is an amazing camera.

Very nice content. Really demonstrates the dicotome of ancient and modern blended together and still relevant.

20 fps is a revelation. How many shots before the buffer fills up?

Very impressive detail too. Nice photos.

Hot tip for all here. Amazon owns a discount website "Woot.com". You will often find cameras and equipment here. Much of it is refurbished or factory reconditioned, but also lots of new items.

I bought an excellent Vanguard tripod with top of line ball head for substantially less than half of its retail price. You might have some luck if you look there right now!

Only caveat: be careful with warrantees. Most new items carry typical full term warrantees, but most refurbs carry 90 day versions.

Good luck!
