I appreciate the shout-out. I've spent the week securing and moving boats in preparation for the storm-I work on large boats(40 + ft) for a living, in the Daytona Beach area. For anyone interested, this is the best site to "tune to" during these events:

https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/

for the computer savvy, there's a ton of info here-especially looking at the full computer runs of the different models. Hoping all of those affected( and their friends and family) by this storm remain safe, and look forward to getting past it.

"They'll also close the main road to the Cataloochee Valley, Cove Creek Road, from Nov. 1 to Feb. 29, though there is a secondary way to access it."

***you must not have read the part about cataloochee being closed down on November 1-YES, the article is mostly about cades, but there is more to it-that's what my original reply was about

thanks for the heads up-was planning on shooting elk around the first of November. Guess I need to readjust. I've done the backway, mentioned as a secondary entrance. It runs south from Cosby, down the Cataloochie turnpike, which is a narrow gravel road that stretches for a little over 20 miles, through some pretty rugged terrain. My avatar was taken in Cataloochie.

I prefer a paint stick over a Sharpie for things of this nature. The Sharpie wears more quickly than the markings of a paint stick, which is also more tolerant to different solvents.

I bought one 4 yrs ago, for use on my 7DmkII, and love it. It's a great walk around lens, and has no problem producing sharp images. I don't use it as much now, but I won't get rid of it-it's got a place in my kit.

the triangle is about exposure only-focal length can change a parameter, ie, aperture, but in itself, is not a direct component of exposure

I've been using it for years, and really like it. Very intuitive, and strong software. I probably use it 90% of the time, and use DXO and Photomattix the rest of the time. At the point of download on the faststone site, there are links to tutorials. I've never used them-just rooted around and figured out the programs features that work for my workflow.

What is the source for this camera, dealer or third party used?

not sure who the OP is looking at as far as purchase, but I used E-Infinity on Ebay. The purchase went quickly, and documentation was provided at every step. Hong Kong to Florida via FedEx, in 5 days from the time of purchase. The camera actually came with a 1yr seller warranty-I purchased an additional drops/spills warranty for 3yrs($120). The Ebay listing had the 5DSR for $1710. As mentioned earlier, the only caveat I ran into was the language setting in the camera. On power up, it was in an Asian language. fortunately, having my 7dmkII to use for reference helped with navigating a menu in a language I didn't understand.

Hi folks,

I will be leaving for Italy in less than two weeks. I have a Canon 7D MkII with the Canon EF-S 18-135 3.5-5.6 IS STM lens and a Canon EF 70-300 4-5.6 IS USM. After reading a previous post where the guy was questioning his lens choices, I was wondering if I should add a wider angle lens to my equipment. I realize my 18mm is equivalent to approximately 28mm on a full frame. If I decide to get a wider angle for my APS-C camera, what do the Hogs recommend? I prefer to stay with Canon.

Your 18-135 is a crop sensor lens-there is no factor

I recently bought a 5DSR from a Hong Kong dealer-$1800 vs $3600 in this country. There is absolutely no problem getting Canon to work on the grey market cameras-period. You just don't have a USA warranty. The camera was a complete Canon product-manuals, battery, charger, strap, etc. One thing to be prepared for, though, is unless you know Asian language, you may have trouble getting through the menu to change the language to English. Fortunately, my 7DmkII has the same menu structure, and identical button layout. These cameras only have a 1yr warranty, anyway, so just hope you get through the first year-you'll be paying for things afterward, any way you purchase. For the money saved, I'll happily send it in for repair, if needed.
