One of these pictures was taken with a Canon 1DX with a 28-300 lens attached. One was taken with my cell phone. Without looking at the EXIF data, can you tell which is which? They received basically the same treatment in LR - contrast, clarity, sharpening, etc.

I think No.1 because of the very blue sky. My 12 pro max has bright colors. Both are good, cell phones have come a long way but they can't do much creative work yet!

I needed a lightweight small tripod for hiking, so after some research I chose the Small Rig tripod. It can hold 44lbs. The head holds 4.4 lbs. I ordered it from Adorama.

You pay shipping and handling, unless you live in Northern CA where I can possibly deliver in the SF area.

Hi, My sister has a bungalow in Kanha. I loved your pictures. The fourth one from the bottom shows the tiger marking his territory. The best time to visit would be from Oct- Feb. She said this winter was very unbelievably cold. She and her husband have a stream running by their property so they see the tigers come for a drink. Its a beautiful serene place. Thank you for the photos.

I dunno. From Wiki: “The Fujifilm X-Trans is a CMOS sensor developed by Fujifilm and used in its Fujifilm X-series cameras. Unlike most CMOS sensors featuring a conventional Bayer filter array, X-Trans sensors have a unique 6 by 6 pattern of photosites. Fujifilm claims that this layout can minimise moiré effects, and increase resolution by eliminating the need for a low-pass filter”.

I beleive that Fuji owns the patent, but it would take some effort to know whether Fuji fabs the sensor in their own foundries (Fuji is a major chip and device manufacturer who currently fabs the SPARC CPU, among other devices) or contracts the fab to Sony.

[quote=gwilliams6]Actually Sony makes sensors for other camera makers besides Fuji, so they are all becoming a little bit Sony. FYI, Sony makes the image sensors for both APS-C and medium format Fuji cameras.[/quote

Very helpful, Mickey...thank you.

I've posted Tom's website on this forum a number of times. I know him, I've taken classes by him, and he's certainly not an "armchair expert" ~ he's an avid hiker and professional travel photographer.
Hopefully, his experiences will help you with your decision.

One more thing: As craggycrosser suggests; do your own research about anything you read or we advise. Not all M4/3 camera/lens combos are lighter than APS-C, and not all APS-C combos are just as "big and heavy" as the typical DSLR combo. The Panasonic G9 vs. the Fujifilm X-T20 are examples.

I can’t see how you will save weight going with the same APS-C or if you move up to FF with much heavier lenses.

Yes, I am coming to that conclusion too. I gave my 70D and lenses to my sister, so she’s happy!
The Sony and Fuji intrigued me for different reasons. I’m not in a hurry, just thought I’d put this out there to see what people think.
Thank you everyone for your input.

craggy, one thing I find interesting about the questions asked on this forum, that are similar to that of the OP (here):

They seldom follow the thread and answer the clarifying questions needed to really help them toward a conclusion. Simple (well, maybe not so "simple") questions such as; which lens (or lenses), do you plan to use? ~ what do you plan to do with the information that ends up on your SD card? ~ how much weight can you "enjoy" in a camera system? ~ what is your camera budget (the OP gave us a hint with her question, by telling us which cameras are in her decision making process).

I'm thinkin' that if OP's with these questions would honor the forum members with reasonably well thought out answers, they might get more reasonable advice.

No?

Hi, to answer your questions, I plan to get a long lens for sure as I photograph wild horses, a walk around lens and a wide angle to begin with. Light lenses are a factor.
Weight? The least to hike with. Less than the 70 D and lenses.
Re SD card? I use LR and Photoshop. And I sell my pics locally sometimes. But mostly I enjoy taking interesting landscapes, macro and wildlife. Not people! Love to travel too.

Hey "California Girl" and greetings from the UK !

I'm not gonna tell you which side of which fence I fall ...... but would simply say that I've been a member here since 2012, a mirrorless user since 2013, and watched zillions of nice people ask for "help to decide".

Already you've been inundated with "other people's" "alternatives"........ the "I use" community.

All I'm gonna say is "work it out for yourself"...... is that too difficult?

The strongest decisions we make in life are those based upon our own answers to our own questions.

Take your time.

I would recommend the FF Sony A7III for better image quality, especially in low light. However the Sony A6500 is also an APS-C format like the excellent Fuji XT-3 and has excellent performance, light weight and there are excellent and affordable, lightweight lens for it. Sony is set to announce its successor, an A7000, perhaps before Christmas. This will use the same Sony-Built 26 megapixels sensor that is in the Fuji XT3, and will have A9 like features with 20fps frames rates; and XT-3 video performance like 4k/60p. If you can wait until then I would and then compare size and specs. Cheers

I can wait. If the A7000 has an easy touchscreen, it might be the winner!
Thanks.
