You almost paid for the first year of Adobe CC when you purchased the new Elements!! And you are stuck with no upgrades, and only 8 bit photos. If you are a happy camper and do not need all the goodies in Lt Room and Photoshop- so be it. It is like everything else in this world.. you can drive a ford Focus or a Cadillac- your choice- The Cadillac has some super features that make life a lot easier and more comfortable. If you are a Jpeg shooter, then you don't need anything else- The point being, if you purchase Elements every year, you almost paid for the top of the line- and you are only fooling yourself!

The 300D was my first Digital camera and I still use as I had it converted to IR a number of years ago. I have what is called the "Russian Hack" which unlocked a number of items to make it run as a Canon 10 D which was the Pro model. At the time, if this upgrade was installed it would void the warranty but most folks did it anyway. Off hand I do not remember all the items it installed. I still have that firmware if you would be interested. It may be packed as we are in the process of selling our home and moving. But I do have it- It is still a good camera with limitations of course!! I do use smaller Compact Flash cards. I still use it for Infrared photo taking. Love the pictures!! I would use a newer version of a camera today, for the conversion to IR as yes, the newer cameras are better!!! But it works good. Good back up camera!

If I were you I would go the Epson V800 route. A tool designed to do what you want to accomplish

The only problem with the V600is it only scans one row at a time- If you have "Light Years to copy"- then there is no sense in getting the V800. I have the V600 Great scanner....but much slower- They all are slow, but it is nicer to do more at a time- Gives you time to do other things while you are waiting...

I'm assuming you have or purchased a "Formatted drive" ?? Does windows see the drive with a new drive letter?? If so, follow some of the above suggestions!

I installed the software for the Epson Print Layout and I get an error message that says it cannot find the file.. (on a Mac) I have a photo up in Photoshop, and go to automate and Epson print Layout and I get the error it cannot find the file. I installed a copy inside the Plugin folder- still no luck. If I just install the program as I said, it will not work- I have the P600 and it sould work? any hints?? Thanks

Or ... you can revert back to High Sierra! Adobe doesn't go back and fix the compatibility of old programs...OR... you can pay the piper and get CC Classic Lt Rm/PhotoShop. I will say tho, the new Lt Rm Classic/PhotoShop does have new tools that are a great help in post processing.. I don't know how much you do in post so it may not be worth it for you.

One more item I forgot to mention - Depending on your camera (Nikon I believe will NOT do this) however, with some models of Canon, I have the 7D MK II, with a zoom lens, you can calibrate both ends of your zoom. You can do a near zoom calibration and a far or infinity calibration and the camera will record both in its MF system. On my 100-400 lens, there was a small difference between the 100mm and the 400mm settings. You do have to figure out the distance to your target for both settings- a must!! Good luck!

The advice give so far is right on-Center focus with the viewfinder- distance must be x number of feet away etc... now there is another little trick that we use (Quite a few of use use this); When you bring up your photo in Photoshop or Elements(or what ever you are using), go to "Filter>Stylize>Emboss". Now view and decide which line edges on the ruler is clearer. If you ever used "High Pass Sharpening" this is how it was done. This lets you see the edges much more clearly. Works for us!!

You know, if I thought you were serious I would have recommended it highly.

If you think you had it bad, you should have been in Green Valley- next to the mine- I couldn't see the house 4 houses away!! Just make sure you "really clean the lens body next to the camera so when you do take that lens off, it is really clean!!! Coupleof years ago I ran a SD card thru the washer by mistake- The card worked good but it cleaned up all my porn shots!! Seriously, the card worked fine!!

Questions like this come up time after time- "Should I...." or "I want to trade...."
I'm sorry to report- that a new camera or "Toy" will not make much of a difference. That prize winning photo is still between your ears!!

All said and done, I have the Tamron 18-400 A "SUPER" walk around lens. if you can afford it, that is the key lens to have with you- forget the 150 to 600 it will drag you down because of the weight especially on a hike in the mountain areas. I know the 600mm is great to have but... 400 is a bit mor than the old 28-300's etc. the extra from a 300mm to 400mm is a plus. The Tamron 18-400 gives the best of both worlds for near and far. It is a pretty darn sharp lens- Not the top of the line of the Canon or Nikon lenses but pretty darn sharp!! If the hikes are very strenuous, you will croak with the 150-600!! it does no good in a backpack so you will have to carry it out front and that could be a problem unless you are Charles Atlas. Keep it in the car just in case- that is a plus!! Good luck - A great trip!!
