That's great. Thank you. I can't say that I'm great at the menu system, but better than anything else. I have the 14-140. I might try to rent the 100-300.
Will eventually post some pix.

Does anyone know why? Or what will replace it? It gets such good reviews here and everywhere. I have a gm1 but need a view finder for big trip to Galapagos. Any other recommendations?

Had the sony rx 100. Didn't like the camera or the pix. Went for the panasonic zs35 (now 40) for travel. Really excellent. Good zoom, sharp, easy to use, pocketable and reasonable price. Took it to alaska and got great whale pix. And utah for beautiful mountains. Good choice. Good luck.

Looks like a great trip. I did a similar one with friends this October.
The scenery is great, the pictures terrific. I'll try to post some too!

I used a lumix zs30, didn't want to lug big gear in crowded minivan. It was perfect for most

Ovee the past year I invested in a camera system. However it is getting too much to carry around and my focus has changed to post processing. I am going to give the equipment to my daughter.
I want to take one camera with me, high quality camera, preferable fixed lens or a limited fast zoom lens that I can use for street, some landscape and people. Is there a camera?

I scaled back to 2 cameras, essentially one for travel and primarily outdoors, the lumix zs30. But my go to camera now is the 4/3 lumix gm 1 on which I have a 14-140 lens. Tho for low light indoors I use the kit lens it came with. I may buy the 25 mm f 1.8. Tried the Sony 100 series and didn't like it.
Friends have liked the lumix 200 but even that's big for me to carry around. The micro 4/3 systems seem to be much more accommodating to those of us who want to simple down and reduce weight. Interested in what you decide

i just got back from a cruise on the coral princess to alaska. alas, we never had a clear view of Denali, but we had a beautiful sunny day in glacier bay. and in the other ports as well.
i decided to not carry another camera and lenses but had with me every second the panasonic lumix zs30 with a 20xzoom. i think i got great pics, primarily because it's very fast Mountains stand still, but whales , eagles and bears don't.
pics as yet unedited
and i could switch instantly to video.
great trip, and happy with camera. also use lumix gm1 with several lenses, but didn't want to carry.

You will enjoy the trip and those three lens covered most of my opportunities for photos, including rafting and whale watching. But from all the reports I have read, I wish I had purchased the SX50 for the tour into Denali National Park.

I'm taking my terrific panasonic lumix zs30.
Great zoom, fast, light, sharp iq, and always in my hand!

I want to upgrade from my Fugifilm bridge camera. It's been great for my travels and as I still want to keep the weight and size down, I'm looking at a 4/3 kit.

I have 3 on my shortlist. Has anyone used or is using a Fugifilm X-T1, Olympus OM D 1 or the new Lumix GH4?

My primary use is travel and street photography so the GH4 may be an over kill as video is not a main priority. However it does look an awesome bit of kit.

I did look at the Sony A 7 but for me it does not sit well in my hands. My new purchase will be with me for the next few years so I don't want feel any regrets down the road. If anyone is using any of these models or has compared them, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nick.
I want to upgrade from my Fugifilm bridge camera. ... (show quote)

I was getting back to photography after many years of p&s.
After doing similar research, I decided the panasonic GM1. For siZe, low light capability, interchangeable lenses, and price. Now having used it for several months I think it's great. The pix rival daughters Nikon dslr, and I can always have it with me. Just purchased the 14-140 f3.5 lens and might get a 20 or 25 prime Highly recommend! Easy to use though I haven't worked through the 314 p advanced manual yet.

I was in same position. Grand kids and travel. Also can't hold heavy camera any more. Tried the sony rx100 and didn't like it. Now have panasonic gm1 for indoor lowlight pix of kids and I'll get more lenses as needed (desired) And a
Panasonic zs 30 for travel. Sophisticated cameras, a lot of options , small and easy to carry. And great pictures.

Thank you. Are you currently using the gm1? I love the size. Is the gm7 much bigger? Is that the newest?

Trying to decide between the panny 20 mm f 1.7 or 25 1.4.
Any experiences?
Interested in low light indoors of kids primarily. Is 25 too big?
Is 20 to slow to focus?
Thanks.

The 20 1.7 is a razor sharp lens with a slow AF motor. The 25 1.8 is a great sharp lens too, although I opted for the faster panasonic f/1.4 version (the deal was too great to pass on 325 barely used). The 25 1.8 version is light and small, like the 45 1.8 (which is a stellar lens as well)

What's your source for used lenses? I tried bandh with no luck. Are the lenses easy to handle? Small enough? My gm 1 is pretty tiny. Does the 25 mm
1.4 focus faster? Thank you

yes, the m.zuiko is 'm' for micro four thirds.

Off topic but how do you like the pan 20mm 1.7 lens? I'm debating that or the new 25mm 1.4. Reviews on both are really good.
I have a lumix gm1.
Thanks.
Also debating a zoom. Maybe 40-140?
