Trying to decide between the panny 20 mm f 1.7 or 25 1.4.
Any experiences?
Interested in low light indoors of kids primarily. Is 25 too big?
Is 20 to slow to focus?
Thanks.

Well usually. But not right now. I've read all the reviews. Everyone loves both.

Then, the 20mm because it fits the tiny GM1 camera better.

Hi Dsrapa, You should consider the Sigma 19mm 1:2.8 EXDN it's an excellent lens just as good if not better than the Panny 20mm and also a lot cheaper. I have had one for nearly two years and it's my main lens. The latest model is now the "Art" edition which is just a cosmetic change, have look at this review:http://www.ephotozine.com/article/sigma-19mm-f-2-8-ex-dn-a-art-m43-lens-review-18971
I have a brand new M.Zuiko 17mm never been out of the box if you want to buy that let me know.

I have both and they are good. Auto focus is fast, images are sharp and clear as long as you avoid camera shake. That is the only draw back. Panasonic primes do not have stabilization built into the lens. I got the 20mm to shoot indoors but find it is not quite wide enough for me. Example, a group of 10 t0 15 people sitting at a table in a restaurant. It is bad form to ask other diners to move so you can get back far enough to get everyone in the shot and be able to hold steady.
My next purchase is going to be the G7, I think that is the one with inbody stabilization.
One other thing, A non Panasonic lens will not have Auto focus. Being that my eyes are not as good as years past, I need Auto Focus.

Thank you. Are you currently using the gm1? I love the size. Is the gm7 much bigger? Is that the newest?

No I am using a G3, the newest version is the G4 which is more video oriented. Seams Panasonic upgrades a G model rather than adding another G number to the line. The newest G3 has built in WiFi my G3 does not. The body is a little different also.

My DW has the GM1 with the lens that came with it. She loves it. She went so far as to buy a special purse to carry the tiny thing along with her essentials. She get great photos.

I have the more standard sized GX7. It is a lot bigger and heavier. It would not fit in my DW's purse. She would need a much bigger purse for that.

The GM1 is newer in the Panasonic M43 system than the GX7. The newest is only a month old and is the GH4.

The GH4 is getting a lot of attention for one of its new features. It will shoot what is called 4K video. There are only two cameras and one Samsung smartphone that will do that and costs less than $2,000 right now.

That said, the GH4 is still a fine camera for still photography, as is all the Panasonic M43 system cameras. For still photo shooters that have no intention of shooting 4K video, the GX7 may be the better choice.

The GM1 is so closely related to the others in the system, the picture quality will be nearly the same when the same lenses are used. It does not have a viewfinder and is so small that it may not feel good to those with larger hands.

Its GX7 and it is bigger but still quite small and light. They share the same sensor but the GX7 has more features, including in body stabilization.

However, most like not necessary with the smaller lenses. More marketing hype than practical feature. Its a different story on long lenses.

The GM1 is more basic, which may be a plus, depending on your preferences.

The problem with it is most lenses are too big for it, which defeats the purpose of its small size.

Its also does not have a view finder, which is a deal breaker for many.

My DW's GM1 functions fine with my Panasonic Lumix 100-300 and 14-140 lenses I bought for my GX7. It might look odd to a traditionalist that grew up with Nikanons, but it works fine.
