When dealing with situations in which the camera's (or monitor's) dynamic range isn't enough (such as bright background dark foreground), there are three ways you can proceed. (I'm not counting graduated neutral density filters since they won't help when dealing with complex shapes.)

- You can brighten up the dark area with more artificial light.
- You can darken the bright area with the use of fine nets.
- Or you can take multiple shots with different exposures and combine them to produce one image.

Since I don't have the equipment for the first two options, I resort to the last one.
In this example, the foreground is way too dark and the background is way to bright to fit them both into the range of the equipment.

I used enfuse software to "fuse" the bracketed images together.

Taken on a tripod with a 2-second delay. (You really need to make sure your model stays still for this.)

(P.S. F/16 was needed for depth of field, so that the background would show. Consequently, the shutter speed had to be low.)

jKaye65, This is one of those things that you have to be tastefull in and can be looked at as not constructive criticism. I think you could fall in the Highjacking category even with your own post. For example if you wanted your photo critiqued and perhaps you posted most of these for a comparison, well you're not giving the forum anything to post to compare it with if it was a question with your requested critique, therefore I consider that as Highjacking the whole forum. Because you may be posting too many photos and literaly hurting yourself, this is why on the picture attachment in the reply area there is only 3 slots I'm assuming. So in that case be fare and if applicable, allow someone to critique just a few photos. So in my opinion you could have people avoiding your post possibly because your what seems to appear to bragging in your own Post. So with that and I know it took me a while to get there, but I think you might run in that category. But really you said it yourself just did want to type it in. Well I'm not sure how you can make a Post and explain it with more Photo's. In would try to explain yourself in detail and try to concentrate on getting your message out with one good question on the Photo. Like in my situation that I question, as it was explained it was perfectly okay. But it wouldn't be in my opinion if I had post 5 or 6 Pictures to show how good this lens is. I had to use comin since per say and realize what I'm saying is just constructive criticism. I think if I had saw 5 other people post a photo in regards to how well this Lens preformed, well that is to much and really if you think about it, it would be redundant for me to even further post yet another photo. So in your case it might look and be redundant to me to view all your photo's for one question or one you want me to figure out. You may find aventually that your Post aren't being replyed on maybe because of this, and I know I'd like to be as quick as possible with my question concerning my Post. I've said allot and my opinion is not always correct. Good Luck
jKaye65, This is one of those things that you have... (show quote)

Here is my honest opinion, take it for what you will.

When I open a new picture thread and see the photo, 90% of the time it has some glaring (and some not so glaring) flaw. And I do not have a problem with that. This is all about learning the art of photography......and I learn something new everyday.

My issue is when I start reading some of the comments about the "flawed" image. "Perfect", "wouldn't change a thing", "this should be framed and in a museum", etc etc.

Those comments are all misleading and nobody has learned a thing. So on a handful of occasions I have commented on how I feel the photo could be improved. I add a photo of my own to further illustrate the point, not only for the original starter of the thread, but also for all those who made the comments.

If that is "hijacking" then I am guilty as charged. I would rather "show" you what I mean then write a book trying to explaing what makes a decent photo.

A picture is worth 1000 words and if you'd rather have the 1000 words then this forum may not be for me.
quote=Dyluck4 jKaye65, This is one of those thing... (show quote)

As I stated earlier, I guess I have been guilty of hijacking because I did not know that was what I was doing.

I must take exception to the idea that all comments must be sweet and positive. Positive is good, but as jkaye65 said, one does not learn anything if no one will give constructive critique or show a different way of seeing something. I hope that we all stop hijacking... that if we see someone doing that, a gentle suggestion that it is not proper would be in order, and that we all try to be positive while offering some suggestions. When I say great, or wonderful or something really positive, it is because I cannot find anything that I can add to the job that is already well done. I do not comment on everything. Sometimes I do not see the positive and do not want to hurt someone's feelings. Or, perhaps the subject of the photos just do not interest me. But I learn something every single day on this forum, and I love it. I hope that, at times, I add something of interest in the way of my comments.

I hope I have not just hijacked this stream.

I thought it a good idea in the infancy of this forum to bring up a subject that is present on most photographic forums, highjacking. highjacking is the posting of your photos on someone's thread who didn't ask for them. Sometimes the highjacker doesn't even comment on the original on the original poster.

Forum etiquette states that if you have good photos start your own thread unless the person that started the thread invites the members to add theirs.

The main damage from highjacking is the possible discouragement for new or shy folks to start their own threads. They are taking a chance that they will receive harsh criticism, comment or critique just to start a thread and post, maybe for the first time. I've seen forum die from members being intimidated by rude, uncalled for remarks.

I've sent PMs to a couple of members attempting to keep this a private concern but the practice of highjacking on this new forum is rampant so I thought better to take it public.

We all love photography. Most here want to learn their art and I've noticed a lot of healthy positive discussion. Let's keep this forum alive without egos getting in the way.

Thank you for your comments here. I did not realize I was hijacking... will not do so again. We all have things to learn, don't we?

Perry- from what I hear they (the general population) have only been allowed to drive within the last 10 to 20 years and are pretty much clueless as to rules of the road. The person I heard this from said he was amazed that everyone wasn't laying out in the road, dead, with smoking cars as far as the eye could see. Oh yeah- don't forget scooters- bikes- motorcycles- He said they could drive around a family of four on bikes/scooters!

Well, we sat in the front seat of the bus on the way from the airport at our first stop in China. When we arrived, I told the guide that I hope this guy was not going to be our driver for the whole trip. He sort of chuckled. Everyone in China drove like that. Here is another one... and this one really qualifies as a worst picture... but it is a cherished memory.

Here he comes! Let's play chicken.

Thanks, I was not aware that there was a standalone. One of the NewB's to editing said they used Pixel Bender, but did not respond when asked about source.

I had "twisted pixel" when sold by Serif. Unfortunately, the disk was broken!!?? and so all I have is a serial number! Any one have Twisted Pixel, and was it of worth?

Can you not call Twisted Pixel?

Yes, we are driving on the wrong side of the yellow line. This is how one drives in China. I was scared stiff. Oh, that was not me driving. That was our bus driver.

Look out!
