Welcome to the site from a Vietnam vet 69-70, Long Binh Post and Da Nang. Like to see some of your photos.

I have Pentax cameras. They work fine with M42 lenses, which they should because the modern K-mount was designed to make M-42 adapters straight-forward. However, even the official Pentax adapter doesn't provide capability to open the aperture for focusing and then stop down for shooting. Pentax users are heavy users of M42 lenses, and most of us use them totally stopped down .... frankly, that has never caused issues for me.

Thank you for your effort and the photos. I understand the manual/auto pin. My problem is that I couldn't manually focus on anything more than a foot from the lens. I had it on auto but never even got around to moving to manual mode, which I don't think that would change the focal length unless I'm thinking wrong.

Why? Even if you could get it to focus to infinity you would need to use it in stop down mode which will make focusing and metering very difficult. I would suggest to find a deal on a Nikon AF 50mm or even a Nikon MF AI/AIS lens at least it will couple to your D7100.

I have the Nikon 50mm f1.8 and love it. I purchased the Asahi Pentax Spotmatic w/50mm f1.4 lens in Vietnam (69). Just wanted to make use of what I have heard is a very fine lense that is just sitting in a camera case. Thanks for your input Helge.

You could ask Sharpshooter, but he'd just advise you to dump your Nikon gear and buy Canon. You could send the lens to me, it'll work just fine on my Canon and I even have a spare adapter!

P.S. - Sorry for your issues, I hope you find a solution!

Not much hope Peterff. Most suggest an adapter with glass in it. That has to defeat using the lense. I can't afford to switch cameras...heck I can't afford what I have now!! Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the tip. I was plugging all kinds of phrases into google with not much results but copied your sentence and got as you said many comments in google. Thanks again.

With Nikon, the lens mount flange to the focal plane is about the deepest of brands. Makes it hard to adapt any other lens and make it focus to infinity. There are adapters that have a correction lens in them for this.
Your very sharp m42 mount lens will most likely suffer a bit.

Thanks for the response. I had high hopes but I think you are correct.

Tried searching for previous discussion on this question with no luck. I purchased an M42 adapter to attach my Pentax super takumar 50mm f1.4 lens to my Nikon D7100. I can't get it to work. I can focus on subject but only about a foot away from the lens. Have read many good things about using this lens so I must be doing something wrong. I've tried setting the f stop at different settings. Anyone had success using this set up?

The "Navman" is a Kiwi unit that's got a big bright display
and you get a selection of male and female voices you can choose
from.

Currently the lady that tells me when to turn sounds just like Nigella Lawson...
When the distance to turn is 200 metres she counts them down in increments of 50 metres.
As the turn is being executed, she shouts "SECOND GEAR! FLAT TO THE BOARDS!"...

Gorgeous voice and accent. Yum!

That does look pretty handy and maybe even a little safer since you don't divert your eyes as far as dash or windshield mount but....that would drive me crazy not having access to view the guages...oil, water, battery etc. Does that bother you at all??

Wow, lived there 8 years and don't have a clue about the bus routes. Wish I had a dollar for every trip to the airport I made. Anyway, please don't forget to have a meal at the Top of the World restaurant at the Stratosphere. Great place to take photos!
