I would seriously look at the Sigma 18-250mm DC Macro, I'm saving for it myself at the moment, this with my Sigma 150-500 & Tamron 90 macro pretty well has me totally covered with 3 lenses. After looking at reviews of all the lenses around that focal zoom range it stands out to me as the best bang for your buck by miles.
Cheers

I don't get the problem here. I'll go with what Gitzo says. He makes perfect sense too me. Third party anything is simply not the way to go especially if you're going to be involved with something as expensive as photography can be.

Your problem is you just think everyone on here has money to buy what ever they want,,,, the fact is most of us don't & aren't professionals we are hobbyists that have to get by with what we can afford, if they didn't make the cheaper ones most of us would never even be able to own one just dream.

You aren't very clear here.
Some have assumed battery grip is what you meant when you wrote pack.
I went to Mike's site
http://mikescamera.com/products.html?catalog%5Bname%5D=Battery-packs&catalog%5Bdecision_model_guids%5D%5B0%5D=7773639e-8823-4d48-944d-c5a9d3593e90
and saw that it references replacement batteries as packs.
Is that what you meant?

Excellent pick up,,,,, I'm way off the mark, forget what I have said !!!!

The Meike battery grip I purchased for my D300 was almost identical to the authentic grip from Nikon. I put them side by side and could not tell any difference except for the Nikon label on one. It looked like they were made in the same factory. The Meike was great and the price was reasonable too.

There's a ton of different brand names, & they all look identical & I bet they all come from the same factory, it's like everything these days, one manufacturer makes the product & different companies get their logo put on it & sell it. It's just like TV Panels as an example, there is a hell of a lot of different brand TV's around but there's only a few manufacturers of LCD panels, the many companies purchase from one of the few manufacturers.
That's my opinion anyway !
David Busch may have jumped ship since he wrote the manual to your Camera -- On his website (which was hacked at the beginning of the year and remains pretty much broken still) under the topic My Favorite $50 gadgets. http://dslrguides.com/blog/?p=47/

and I quote "I just got a batch of new gadgets in, all in the $50 (or less) price range, and all have made my life a bit easier.
* Meike Vertical Battery Grip for Nikon D800 D800E. I don’t need a vertical grip for my D800 very often. I usually use my Nikon D4 in such situations. So, why pay $400 or more for Nikon’s MB-D12? I treat this plastic version with care, and for $60 it does the job. If I were covering the Olympics or Super Bowl with a D800, I’d want the Nikon grip. But this one is fine for casual use."

Perhaps it wasn't David Busch's book, but if he would use a third party grip on a D800E which costs 3 times what a D7000 does, I'm sure he would be fine with a third party on a D7000 also.
Nice work

I would've agreed with you before and shortly after buying my meike grip but not anymore. Some accessories just make sense buying third party - like shutter release cords. I did buy another grip for my old camera - it is a polaroid brand. Much better made than the piece of shiitake Meike but I still would not trust the tripod socket in it for anything but decoration.

Sorry to hear that,,,, I don't know what the brand name is I have, but I'll check it out. All I know is I'm happy with it & if it dies it wont bother me to much, I'm happy to get 12 months out of anything these days. I hate tripods & would never attach my strap to anything but the lugs designed & built for that purpose, using the tripod mount to hang your equipment from is just asking to have your baby hit the concrete !
Cheers !

Buy what you can afford, not a lot of us have the money to just go buy Nikon when we want an accessory for our cameras, mine cost $39 looks & works identical to the Nikon with no problems,,,, batteries I wouldn't buy generic, they will waste your hard earned !

Sounds a bit like sour grapes to me. I am sure that if the USA had lost you would not be going on about it all being the fault of the Aussies on the crew...

Hey, there will me more opportunities to set things right.

Hey mate I wrote it for a bit of fun & to see what the response would be,,,,,, the sour grapes are purely from your side of the world,,,,,, so sour the Admin pulled it to stop the truth being revealed & all you thin skinned Yanks not being able to defend & bend the truth.
This forum is the most racist joint I know !

I don't think the 'America's Cup has rules - just guidelines to be fought over by teams of lawyers. Wasn't this the competition that took forever to complete a few years back because the Kiwis stuck some kind of a wing on thier keel, something that nobody else had thought of at the time.

Anyway, along with smart looking boats and gopro type cameras everywhere at least the viewing was exciting.

It was the Australians 30 years ago to the day that was the first Country in the history of the race to beat them with our secret winged keel, Australia went party mode big time.

Thank you very much for letting me know, I can't believe they would pull a topic in chit chat about a boat race,,,,,,, well I can actually.
The Admin just proves what the rest of the world thinks of them,,,, there's them & no one else on this planet.
I hope he has the guts to respond & apologise for insulting me & the rest of the non Americans.
