I find it amusing that just 10 -15 years ago everybody bought the standard filters for their cameras.. the same ones they still sell now...and they were fine. Now because the filter companies have upped the price on them to $80 plus, everybody thinks they are better. We live in a world where everybody thinks that if it costs more it must be better. Im still using the filters (with the exception of my Polarizer and I did have to buy some new ones for my newer bigger lens size) I had on my D6006/film and now use them on my D5000/ digital. No problems even on big enlargements.. dont fall for the hype! Are they a better filter? Maybe as far as thickness, the new ones are much thinner. Maybe quality is compromised if your going to be doing huge enlargements? Is this to say that all the photos we were producing a while back were all blurry and garbage? If you are getting blurry pictures from an old filter I would bet it has more to do with tiny scratches from years of polishing than any other reason....just my 2 cents

I cant believe there are 9 pages on this topic.. the day I have to have a license to take a photograph, pro or not.. I will whip my camera and all the equipment out the window! Just be happy and have fun taking pictures. Fr all those that think we need another licensing body, maybe you should be on a forum called "Ugly Hedgehog- Photography Forum- for Pro's only."

I was also at a local craft show and was yelled at by a vendor who took great offense at my taking pictures of his "Ideas" The funny thing was I saw 10 other booths that had the same "Ideas" as him...lol. People are just funny creatures. If he would have just said hey would you please not take pictures in my booth I would have respected his wishes. But since he came out screaming and making a scene I stood my ground.

A mall is private property. A mall security guard that asks you not to take pictures can then ask you to leave for trespassing. If you refuse they will most likely call the local police and then you will either be escorted to your car or they will arrest you for not leaving when asked. Call a lawyer if you want but you will probably be calling from a jail cell. Not saying its right or wrong but thats what Ive seen happen many times at the malls here around Cleveland. It is no different than skateboarders or kids just hanging out everyday. They have many ways to remove you from the premises. Just saying...

I take pictures all over and have been asked to leave from many places. Yes for some reason tripods do attract attention. As for private property, here in Ohio the person who owns the property or business can ask you to leave and refuse service to anyone and does NOT have to give you a reason. Generally if you just ask and explain who you are and what the pictures will be for you will be allowed permission. I have even been asked to stop photographing with a cell phone camera.. go figure...lol

I have a Nikon D5000 and I love the articulating screen! I use it mostly for when I'm down on the ground or really low with my tripod. I have used it when shooting up high but not as much. I like it as a viewfinder cover also. If I had a choice of having it or not i would want it.

Hi all...
what is the best (powder?) for shiny spots on a persons face when shooting portraits without making them look pasty or unnatural? I know nothing about make-up..lol

I agree too much posing (very senior portrait-ish) but still very nice shots! Maybe try to get more natural poses?

Yes there are many pitfalls. If you want to be a photographer I say forge ahead. I would sit down with the bride and groom and explain the situation and tell them you will do your best, You have to learn somehow. I have never understood the ministers objections to flash but its there house I guess, seems kind of selfish to me! One of my first weddings I did I didn't change the color balance on my camera and the pics all came out a little orange but were fixed in processing. Pics came out great though! Raise your ISO, crop and do your best! "Be Bold and Mighty Forces Will Come to Your Aid" Something one of my mentors taught me years ago!

I was so disappointed when I first bought my D5000 learning they do not make a battery grip for it. I saw on YouTube a review of the new battery grip. Has anybody tried it? Looking for a good review before I buy. Also saw on YouTube a guy that cracked the case of his d5000 by dropping it.. bummer!
