A young fellow at my church, 5 or 6 years old is my biggest fan. Every week he asks me if I have any spider pictures for him. I usually print a close-up or macro image on 4x6. This week I didn't have one but I told him that I was splitting firewood and when I brought out my splitter there was a big fat spider on one of the wheels. I went in the house to get my camera but of course when I got back out the spider was gone. Without missing a beat he told me I should always keep my camera with me. Sage advise.

We all know that there are thousands of satellites circling the earth, and probably millions of pieces of space junk orbiting with them. This is becoming a problem for astronomers. The SpaceX satellites - more than 4,200 so far - are especially distracting because there are so many of them, and they are so bright. Efforts to make them less bright haven't been successful. There have been efforts to require all satellites to include a way to de-orbit them, but launchers aren't cooperating. It's more technology and more weight.

It's funny how everything that humans do causes problems.

I was on Loop 820, on my way home behind an ambulance. Oddly I noticed a small metal box sitting on the back bumper. When the ambulance turned the corner, the box flew off and landed on the curb. I thought, it's time to be a good Samaritan, so I pulled over and retrieved it. When I opened it, there was a human toe packed in an ice bag. Holy smoke, I thought! So I called Methodist Hospital and they said, yes, the ambulance had arrived without the box. I gave them my location and asked if they were going to send another ambulance to collect it? The lady replied, "No, we'll just send a toe truck." Please don’t ban me, I don’t get out much.

Do you use a dash cam, and if so which one?

My son’s Suburban was side swiped last week which caused it to jump the curb and hit a stop sign, damaging the front as well as the driver’s side. The other car drove off, but my son’s GoPro (older model) captured everything including the offender’s license tag. The police used the information to track down the other vehicle and assign blame for the accident, but said they couldn’t ticket the other car because they couldn’t prove who was driving (???). If it hadn’t been for the dash cam, my son would have been screwed.

Since running stop signs and lights and 15+ mph over the limit on city streets in my city has become SOP, I’m thinking, as much as I hate the idea of a dangling cord down the dash, maybe I should consider one in addition to my usual ultra defensive driving. Looking for recommendations.
