I pushed the wrong button again. To finish my statement about leaving an ample deposit... people will usually leave and look somewhere else

I treat my camera equipment like my tools. You can borrow if you leave me an ample deposit.

That's what ya want to do. Pay $400 or so for a brand new lens and then run around with a "W I D E" rubber band on your equipment. Nice!

gravity works!

If it were so tight that it didn't drift, you couldn't turn it.

I hold mine with my left hand as I support the camera. I guess a person just gets used to it.

I read someplace about using a W I D E rubber band to help hold the zoom ring.

Does it do that on auto focus too? I have a Tamron 70-300 and it won't creet.

...and if ya notice, your Tamron 70-300mm doesn't have a lens lock either. My 18-200mm Tam. (with lens lock) creeps like crazy when I'm movin' around from shot to shot but maybe, because I've always held my lens with my left hand for manually focusing, it doesn't bother me that much. When in auto focus there's no problem at all.

It seems that many have forgotten the topic which was in regards a photographic question. I believe the politics, as some have represented here, belong in the " Chit Chat" section of this website.

I have a few questions about this taking pictures of bridges:

- Is it legal to take pictures of bridges?

- Is it legal to tak pictures of railroad bridges?

- What are good views or perspectives of bridges to get pictures of?

Thank you for considering these questoins. You can answer all or part of these questions.

Living in the NY area, and having traveled across all of the bridges, I know there are signs that say it is illegal. I remember seeing one several times on the Verazzano Bridge, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it on other bridges.
However, I did a Yahoo search on the question, "Is it legal to photograph bridges?" I got no definitive answer.
One of the sources suggested that it was a deterrent so that vehicles wouldn't stop on the bridge just to do so.
Several sources referred to the illegality of using other equipment (lighting and such) and especially prohibitting the use of tripods.

So, what does this mean? I have no idea. It appears to be legal but you can be stopped, or harassed by authorities, and photographers have won lawsuits for these actions.

It is based on the considered and rational conclusion of bureaucrats, that the bloke taking some snaps with his cell phone to determine the best place for his IED is less dangerous than the chap with $5000+ worth of equipment who is try to make an image of the graceful lines of the structure.

When purchasing a memory card they give the capacity in number of photos. My question; is there some set percentage of difference between recorded raw info and recorded jpeg info? I ask this because the limits on memory cards are most likely for jpeg pictures.

Justshotu,
Since I do a lot of runway shooting, I find that when I shoot a highly detailed set of garments, I have less room on the card. Reason much more info is recorded to get all that detail. I use a 4 gig card Sandisk Ultra, 30MB/s, I have 16 of this card and put each designer on a card. The differences between RAW and JPEG can be quite dramatic. All I can say is prepare to use a lot more cards and space on your computer if you decide to go RAW.

Nice photo "mooseeyes"! Way to be in the right place at the right time. May 18, 1980, my birthday and a day I'll never forget. I was livin' in Great Falls, Montana at the time and we heard that Mt. St. Helens had blown her side out. Next day we were heavily layered in ash. Pretty eerie feeling Monday mornin'. Again, nice shot!

Do any of you do photographs of little nakedy baby butts? If so, what is the appropriate age to stop offering these? Definitely no frontal nudity, and what I am considering is an 18 month old little boy, in huge cowboy boots and huge hat in a 'barn' setting. Mama wants these done, and I'm totally fine with it, but just wondering others opinions.

At the Photo Center where I work the rule of thumb is we will print the nakedy baby butts photos until the child is two years old.

Birth/New born frontal shots until the baby is three months old.

Bath tub shots with more than one child = no fronts or bottoms allowed.

Hope this helps. We find it to be an easy rule to follow and most parents agree with us.

I'm not a prude, by any stretch of the imagination, but 2 yrs. of age seems to be a bit too old to me. 18 mos. ok. "Butt" something such as this is, in the "end", up to the parents.

First shot looks to me as if the white balance is not set correctly. With that corrected, it would be easier to pick between flash and no flash. Not having the correct settings in the first photo makes this an unfair battle.
