Memory card capacity; raw vs. jpeg
When purchasing a memory card they give the capacity in number of photos. My question; is there some set percentage of difference between recorded raw info and recorded jpeg info? I ask this because the limits on memory cards are most likely for jpeg pictures.
It varies a lot. The file size of a RAW photo as well as a JPG photo depends a lot on the amount of INFO in the image, not just your sensor size. I have seen images taken at the same resolution of totally different subjects and the file size can vary by 20% with all identical camera settings. What the card manufacturers post are rough estimates based on averages.
raw photo averages 25 meg jpeg is around 2 meg plus
Thanks for your help guys.

Justshotu,
Since I do a lot of runway shooting, I find that when I shoot a highly detailed set of garments, I have less room on the card. Reason much more info is recorded to get all that detail. I use a 4 gig card Sandisk Ultra, 30MB/s, I have 16 of this card and put each designer on a card. The differences between RAW and JPEG can be quite dramatic. All I can say is prepare to use a lot more cards and space on your computer if you decide to go RAW.
