It was never a gold mining town - that’s Dahlonega, about 30-40 minutes further southwest.
Helen was a logging town. The town leaders thought up the Bavarian theme in the early 1960’s.
Here’s a few from a visit to Columcille in June and last week.
Just to add a non-IR perspective.
It’s a megalith park created by a Presbyterian minister who was inspired by the holy island of Iona. What is not shown are two chapels. Bill (the minister) worked on it for four decades. He died June 18, 2018. The park is adjacent to a national Presbyterian retreat center - Kirkridge.
Ed’s work ALWAYS blows me away.
They took it out years ago when they “improved” parking at the park. If there is one now, it’s been restored. Last time I remember getting water from it (for our lemonade mix in the cooler) was in the late 1960’s when I was in my early teens.
It’s been over 50 years since I’ve been there. Lots of great memories with picnics by Smith creek. Wonderful captures! I just wish the old hand pump was still there. Coldest, tastiest water I’ve ever had.
As a native Atlantan, kudos for the great photos of a wonderful park.
Wonderful, Ed! As always!
JB, do you think 8GB of memory will suffice? Or should I go with 16?
Thanks, JB. That’s the kind of answer I was looking for.
I’ll take a look at the iMac as well. I don’t have to have a laptop. Thanks for the help.
I’m looking at getting a Mac, primarily for photo editing purposes. Can the MacBook Air do a good job of photo editing, or should I get the Pro? Thanks in advance for any comments.
And I live in Pennsylvania too, but I also had the luxury of growing up in Atlanta.
Lol. To be honest, I thought the trees looked much more like Savannah / South Georgia than Atlanta...
