Nicely done shot of this cute little mantis! Beautiful colors, focus and a rare catch. Does anyone see walking sticks any more. When I was a kid one place we camped had lots of them. It's the only time I ever saw them. I'm wondering if they still exist :-).

Did you see the post of mine with the male and female walking stick on the rose bush...I think it was posted under the topic "Camo" and was of camoflouged ( whatever) insects....I see one or two a season here in Central Tx. Linda Morton...

How bout I just post them as a new topic...? Then you would not have to hunt for them...Be lookin',,,,Linda

How would I go about finding that topic? I would love to see them.

Hi Susan...were you referring to my post of the pine tree hanging on to the banks of the Lake...? If you will use "quote reply" it will let the person you are responding to know it...If you are referring to my photo...Thanks so much...We have lost some awesome size pines over the years to the high waters...now they are down about 14 ft. low and all these roots are exposed...Welcome to this UHH site...there are some really helpful folks with a lot of knowledge on here that are willing to help you hone your skills and develop some new ones...! The third shot did not post...this posted pic was taken last weekend...We discovered a massive bee colony in the trunk which may have contributed to the death of the tree...

The dead crumbling oak...

Hanging on to the bitter end...Pine on the crumbling banks of Sam Rayburn in SE Texas...

the color pics are good too

Thanks, I have a difficult time deciding if I like one over the other...nice thing with digital and post editing... I can have both :-D

Love 3 & 4...What about just backing down the saturation till there is just a hint of color and maybe inc. the contrast a smidge...That would be a different look as well...I am liking BW more and more as I view such excellent pics...! Linda Morton

Something like this? What do you think? Don't be afraid to tell me you don't like it...how else can one learn?

This would be beautiful in B&W...Good pic...

I love the second one...he has definately estb. eye contact with you and it does not seem dark at all to me...Of the 3 beautiful shots, I would choose #2 to frame...

could be, some shades turn out that way for me

Its the red...I find that red is so hard to photograph and get the pure true color and texture of the flower...everything else will be in focus but the red...kinda frustrating...Your Lantana capture is good tho..I love the little unopened buds in the center of the flowers...!

They are mushrooms...the kind you pulled up usually grow in a loosely formed circle in the lawn after a rain, esp if the lawn has a heavy thatch under the green of the blades of grass...The circle is called a "fairy ring" and supposedly one can observe the fairies dancing within the ring at midnight on a full moon..or so I've been told..They do afford some interesting shots...I love taking pics of the mushrooms...Toad stools is a name given some of them much as the fairy ring...Linda

I like the mushrooms...the color and texture are pleasing to my eye...I like the way you got on their level as much as possible...and just enough background to show what they are growing in...just a good pic...Buzzards: the one flying off is, to me , a distraction..I wonder what it would look like with it gone ahd the other two left as they are..I like the dark feeling of the " fix" you applied..Linda

Taking a walk in my garden this afternoon and just happened to look closely at the berries on this bush... ran inside to grab my camera! Feel free to comment and make suggestions, but I was just thrilled to come up on this fortuitous moment!

Kathi...these are really nice pics of the little mantis...they are fun to take pics of if you don't fool around too much with them...They can fly at a heart beat and scare the fool out of you...lol...

Nice shots, I like the colors. I found a large mantis the other day on a bush in my front yard so I got out my 200mm macro lense and took this shot after which I added the tag line.

Hmmm! I bet she was measuring the distance for shooting you with her icky bloody looking Eye liquid...lol...It is an awesome shot tho...I love taking pics of them...Linda Morton
