Those are splendid shots! It's so inconsiderate of the eagles to build the nest without thinking of lighting, or putting up a backdrop-- and I don't suppose they'd let you do that.... It seems that late afternoon will be the best time, and you can always hope (and watch) for dark clouds in the east so you can rush to shoot before the light changes.

If the moon is crescent, it should be in the west, approaching the horizon soon after sunset (as best I can tell, not being an astronomer by any stretch of the imagination!). Watch in the day or two before the 26th, and see where the moon is-- it rises and sets about an hour later every day.

Does Jasper tolerate being kissed? Or a nose-to-nose head shot? He's such a handsome guy with such a cute face that it seems to me a close-up with one person would be ideal, and would stand out more than a shot with multiple people. Also would be easier to stage.

Get treatment for your depression. Once the fog lifts your eyes will see things in a whole new light.

I think dparker hit the diagnosis-- do you have a good friend? HR dept at work? A staff psychologist? A Family Physician? Depression/ anhedonia (literally "getting pleasure from nothing") is not a "pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps" problem, and while that may not turn out to be the diagnosis, I'm concerned about you. Please consider more than Photography Therapy.

I really like the streaking-- it gives the feel of being in the snowstorm. And some of us actually like that! It also has given me an idea for experimenting with different shutter speeds to see how long the streaks get, and which gives the best (or worst, for those who hate the cold and snow) feel of the storm. Could you send some snow our way-- we're losing what little we have, and I want enough for snowshoeing...

Here are 3 that I've done-- one with moving the camera and 2 with zooming (on a tripod) through longer exposures (the Christmas tree was a 10 second exposure). It is fun to get out and experiment, and I've just scratched the surface so far. No post-processing.

I love moose, and used to see them regularly in northern MN. Now they are much rarer, though I often see their hoofprints. They are thought possibly to be moving north because of temperature, and they also suffer from brainworm carried by white-tailed deer. It is wonderful to see your photos, and I hope to be able to post some from MN, but I won't hold my breath. I'll just have to return to yours for my moose fix! Thanks so much.

I love #2 and #5-- the layers fog creates add a seductive mystery, and the lines of the clouds in #2 point to something just out of sight. In #5, I get a sense of movement from the trees/shrubs-- again a mystery. I just love story pictures!

I agree-- keep it. It evokes feeling, which is not true of a lot of photos. I keep lots that aren't the quality I wanted just because of the feeling they bring back. Certainly might be worth playing with, too. Then go back next year at the same time with your real camera...

Nice pic, Thanks for posting.Your pic look a lot like mine do you know if mine is a hawk or a falcon?
Hawk. I'm not an expert but am leaning towards Coopers Hawk or Sharp-shinned.
I'd agree-- and the only way I can tell them apart is size. I'd lean a little toward sharp-shinned, but it's only a guess.

If nothing else,, I have noticed my blood pressure is better since
I started taking pictures. wow who would have thought that.

I see a new ad campaign: "Trade your candesartan for a Canon", Replace your nifedipine with a Nikon", and so forth. Actually, it makes sense. Getting exercise as you find the scenes and subjects, meditating on nature as you wait for the butterfly or heron or sunset to be just right, removing yourself from news about congress and the economy (oops, BP up again)-- well, beauty is free and nature offers a wonderful substitute for many types of medication. Thanks for pointing it out, with illustrations.

I know people swim with the dolphins, but it looks like you're flying with the egrets-- fabulous!

Is the bee alive? When you say "staged", I'm guessing not-- it doesn't quite look like a normal pose. Yoga, maybe?

I've had very good results (and good prices) with B&H and Beach Camera. And the savings are increased when you consider you aren't paying sales tax.
