Hi, I got a passing validation, but then later went to Color Adjustment/Color Mode/and then scrolled down to select "Calibration 1" from the submenu to the right of Color Mode. It jumped down past "Calibration 1" and "Calibration 2" to "Custom 1." I move the cursor upward in hopes of selecting "Calibration 1,' but it jumps to "Low Blue Light," bypassing "Calibration 2" and "Calibration 2."

I clicked on the Palette Master software, the X-Rite plugged in, and went over the settings I chose. I'm positive it was set for "Calibration 1." And it doesn't seem to offer a "Custom 1" setting in that spot. I had chosen Photographer Adobe RGB, matrix, absolute black. I also emailed a tech at BenQ, and he doesn't know what to make of this, either. After I got his response, I thought, maybe because only screen 2 (the BenQ's) was selected for when I did the calibration, I needed to select for it to access my calibration. Tried that, no difference. "Standard" is what is checked at present, apparently the factory default. It's a new monitor.

Maybe one of the Ugly Hedgehogs can do one better than BenQ and tell me what's wrong?

In communication with Art. Just gave him the model number of my laptop. He should be of help. I did get a passing evaluation tonight by going with Adobe RGB, matrix, absolute black, but the high marks are still 2.97 and 3.3, which makes me slightly uncomfortable. I do know photography is art, not science, and does not always nail down the ideal mark. Maybe I'll get better numbers yet, but for now, my next step is to figure out how to use the monitor as I've just calibrated it, before I open Lightroom and begin work. Surely that's as easy as selecting "Calibration 1," but I need to know first.

Yes, I've studied many of Art's videos closely, but after a couple of them, I might not have read the comments. I'll go back and do that. I also emailed the guy at BenQ I had emailed earlier about something else along the way, and I haven't got a reply yet. I hope that's not because he thinks the monitor is defective and wants to avoid the issue. I doubt that, but wouldn't really know, not very tech savvy, though I am learning. Thanks for pitching in.

Hi, I posted a month or so ago about cables for my BenQ SW2700PT. Yes, the HDMI is fine, as people on this forum told me it would be. I've found online that my laptop's AMD graphics should not have the 16-235 range that limits the color, or whatever, signal. (The graphics that have that problem are named something or other beginning with the letter V.) But anyhow, I've repeatedly tried to get a passing evaluation, and while on many occasions I have got a passing average Delta E (Kelvin is always OK), always one or two shades of grey stand out at about 4.69 and so the validation fails.

I'm using an X-Rite i1 Display Pro and the Palette Master software. I have tried various settings. Mainly Panel Native, 16-bit Lut, relative black; but also Adobe RGB, matrix, and relative black.

Can anyone can help point me the way towards a successful validation? Thanks.

@Morkie1891 are you talking about the s/w that comes w/the monitor? I have X-Rite Monitor calibator & it's s/w detects my laptop & external monitor…

Morkie1891, Interesting you wrote me today, because tonight I finally tried to calibrate the BenQ. "Extended" display wouldn't allow me to access the X-Rite options, so I hit "Duplicate." I set up the colorimeter settings and then hit "Start Measurement." Both screens went black. Only the cursor showed. I waited a few minutes just in case, shut down the BenQ, shut down the laptop. (Actually, I found I had to hard boot down the laptop.) It sort of made sense to me the screen would go black, because in duplicate, both screens would seem to be calibrating. And, by the way, I was using the Palette Master s/w. By what I've learned from Asus, my model, the 15-inch Vivobook, can't be calibrated. Next, I'm looking into a way to have only the BenQ monitor screen functioning.

Thanks for the comment, Bruce

Now that is a different question. When you calibrate a monitor using a colorimeter, which is usually connected to a USB port, the calibration routine typically loads the calibration values into the LUT (look up table) on the video card in the computer. Some newer monitors (I’d have to look at the manual for your BenQ to see) have a LUT on the monitor, and some calibration systems will not function with that configuration. If your monitor has a built in LUT, then you need to make sure that your calibration system is compatible with it. And if your colorimeter has a regular USB-A connector, then you will need a USB-A female to USB-C male adapter to connect them physically like this:https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Type-C-Gen1-Female-Adapter/dp/B01GGKYYT0/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkMqL4cXd6wIVAYeGCh1-kQOQEAAYASAAEgJvVvD_BwE&hvadid=409965365693&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9003743&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=9630169540489584509&hvtargid=kwd-300385767549&hydadcr=18031_11397876&keywords=usb-c+to+usb+adapter&qid=1599709253&s=electronics&sr=1-6&tag=googhydr-20

and the calibration SW will take care of mapping the signal. Have I answered your question?

Thanks. BenQSW2700PT has a 14-bit LUT with a color difference of Delta E<2 in both Adobe RGB and Adobe sRGB, and I don't pretend to understand what the color difference of Delta less than 2 means, but in any case, the Display Pro works for it, by all I have gathered, creditable, including from BenQ. Display Pro colorimeter has a USB-A which should fit directly into the BenQ. The BenQ, by what I've gathered from the video I sent you, does not have a USB-C, so I gather I don't need the adapter. I don't understand why that video tells me HDMI will render the Display Pro caput, but again, maybe he did mean only an HDMI adapter will.

The video you saw is incorrect. HDMI is a video/audio interface specifically designed to transmit UNcompressed digital video, although the audio may be compressed or uncompressed, which is inconsequential. Modern video cards typically use HDMI, DVI (same video quality as HDMI except no audio) or display port outputs. Not only is HDMI your best choice, it also leaves your USB port(s) free for other uses and allows you to use the “hot key” on your keyboard to switch between displays.

Btw, your USB-C port CAN support a monitor as well with a converter/adapter cable, but I can’t think of any reason to use it.

Just plug in the HDMI and enjoy your monitor knowing that you’re feeding it with the best video your laptop can produce.

And a Display Pro colorimeter works with your HDMI? I wonder why on earth BenQ posted a video that says it will not on a SW2700PT? I watched again before copying the link, and he does say "any kind of HDMI adapter," so maybe there's a difference? (All this stuff is interesting and I think the likes should be for anyone who presumes to use a high-end camera, but I am a slow learner at technical matters.) He names the video something like using a SW2700PT WITHOUT a USB-C cable, but all he means is that the SW2700PT has no USB-C port; it has a displayport. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=usb-c+to+usb+adapter&i=electronics&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkMqL4cXd6wIVAYeGCh1-kQOQEAAYASAAEgJvVvD_BwE&hvadid=409965365693&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9003743&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=9630169540489584509&hvtargid=kwd-300385767549&hydadcr=18031_11397876&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_4ns6eote7v_e

Thanks! Looking into this. For my information, do you mean a USB-C to USB-A converter/adapter? That's all I've found and I'm leaving a link if that works. I don't see from the information how any can possibly change the status of my laptop's USB-C capability, which doesn't seem to be much, since it allows for no video signal. I think it charges my GoPro battery--I plug that in somewhere--but does not seem able to do much more than that. (I laugh at my laptop. The thing is ssd128gb plus 1T. AND it has a Ryzen 5 processor, and yet Asus is cheap on its USB-C! Yup, if I knew about all this at first, I would have bought the Zenbook. But now that you tell me about HDMI and etc., it's probably just as well I saved my money. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=usb-c+to+usb+adapter&i=electronics&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkMqL4cXd6wIVAYeGCh1-kQOQEAAYASAAEgJvVvD_BwE&hvadid=409965365693&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9003743&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=9630169540489584509&hvtargid=kwd-300385767549&hydadcr=18031_11397876&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_4ns6eote7v_e

Exactly. What else would you use the HDMI port for?

I saw a video that said HDMI compresses the signal so you don't get as good a display on the SW2700PT. It also says the i1 Pro will not work with an HDMI cable used. And for that matter, the BenQ tech never thought of suggesting an HDMI cable. Why wouldn't he, if that was an alternative to my buying an expensive computer? But I will be sure to call them back about this.

Thanks.

The USB-C on my Asus Vivobook laptop has no video signal. It can't used as the displayport to my BenQ SW2700PT. I've been looking at a USB Displayport adapter. (Connects to a normal USB port, and I know that port sends signal, because we booted up the BenQ by use of an hdmi cable, just to see.) I called BenQ and couldn't get much information from the guy, a disappointment, but he told it will work, but that BenQ does not recommend using one. I asked why. He could only tell me the signal won't be as good. Before I go out and blow a whole lot of money on a new computer, does anyone have any experience using one of these adapters to connect to a BenQ monitor?

RB-LED by Googling “sw2700pt led type“

Thanks. Had read in the specs about measures taken for increased color gamut, which confused me. I don't believe the X-Rite i1 Pro has an RB-LED selection, but I could be wrong. Maybe I just type it in. Haven't got that far with it yet.

Any suggestions on the best USB-C to Display Port cable to buy for an external BenQ SW2700PT monitor? Is your suggested cable USB-IF certified and does it matter? Also, does anyone know which setting on the i1Pro colorimeter to choose for the SW2700PT--RGB LED or White LED?

Thanks for the help anyone can offer.

I wouldn't say I was tempted by the devil but lifted high by God, which can kind of amount to the same regret. After all, the Devil was God's brightest angel, and his seeking God's secret meant he must have been favored, too, to fly that high. Regret can feel like you're cast down as was Lucifer, but all that is just a trip. I bet that a few years now I'll have no regrets about the money I unloaded.
