Same goes for second test by Adam Jones and company. The lenses they were using can make almost any camera look good, but again, they were shot in daylight. <snip>

The first shots they did were low light (dawn with the sun low on the horizon light filtered by trees) at high ISO.

It sounds like you are looking for a reason not to buy.

You might want to find out of the school can let you know what the requirements are. If they require she have her own camera of a particular type, it would be ao sad to find out in January and miss all the holiday sale prices. This is the time of year to get good prices on camera equipment. Just check B&H or Adorama.

You ought to know that 35mm is not Wide Angle on a crop camera, it's a "normal" length.

Yes! In fact, even on a FF it is normal. In fact it is the definition of normal on a FF.

So if I want to set a record, I should run in Berlin. :D

Well if you want a PB, it is a good place. If you don't, the bread is awesome! And getting around the city is really easy.

Perhaps I am missing the overall picture by picking on of segment of the system. To me, the ISO is a weak link in this particular model, but if I understand what you are saying, it is better to average out the weaker and stronger points of a particular model?

Exactly!

And the measure of that for a camera degsigned for action is the pictures it produces in the field! And the pictures the 7DII is producing for sports and nature photographers form Scott Kellby

to Adam Jones

are more than impressive.

I guess we'll have to disagree on that part. I'm going to hitch my wagon to Tony Northrup's view that ISO is the most important in relation to the other two tests, but I can see where others would have more use or need for other parts.

Sorry if you misunderstood. I meant the system was more important to taking pictures, which is very consistent with Northrup. As to what is important to the tests, I will leave that to you.

It must be tricky certifying courses where records can be broken. The terrain would make a difference in finishing times, I would think. A hilly course would result in slower times, unless it's mostly downhill. I wonder if they take that into consideration. The first NYC Marathon was run in circles in Central Park. Talk about boring!

Berlin is known as one of the fastest marathons in the world. It is probably the fastest of the majors, followed by Chicago. New York is a tough run because of the bridges and the crowded field.

Really appreciate the link. Watched it. Now understand more about sensors. First time I heard anything about sensor efficiency. Great info. Like Northrup's way he looked at it.
It did help make up my mind. Still not confident in Canon's lag behind Nikon and in some cases Sony, but this video helped.
Thank you for posting.

It reminds me that a camera is not just a sensor. It is a system of which the sensor is just one part. And, at least for action photography, perhaps not the most important part.

Nice tripod, but I bet you still have issues with vibration when you press the shutter! Does the lens have really good VR/IS?

Somebody puhleeze help me understand. The 7D II is supposed to be awesome in low-light, but yet the low-light sensor rating as tested by DxOMark is not very good as compared to not only latest competition (D7100) but also as compared and stated with older and in some cases entry level models (D3300).
If this camera is being touted as a "mini-5DIII" or as stated a "mini-1Dx" how is this possible?

Possibly a different question, but as an example and using rounded numbers, the 5DIII is low-light rated at 2300 on a FF camera. The 7D MKII is rated at 1082. Isn't the low-light rating sub-par? If the sensor is 40% smaller would not a relative ISO rating be 40% less than the 5DIII or about 1280? Am I seeing this right, or is my math and rationale flawed?
So, is the 7DII awesome as compared only to the 7D? That I could understand a little better.
BTW - I am a Canon user.

Junk to me is when you blow up the photo to 100% and it's not sharp. The camera is on a tripod, cable release from 5 feet. However the photo is taken at a 90* angle and others have said to take 45*, Im not sure why but I will try it. I'll upload an example, thanks.

This raises question. Are you really asking about studio protrait photography? If so, how large is the room and how far are you from the subject?

Hey, no fair. You can just say I ran, you really must post your time.

Congratulations! I was able to join in the Berlin 1/2, in '91. Unbeleivable organization, but what else would you expect from the Germs. We crossed the location of the wall, I think 3 times. And my time....was the best most enjoyable time I ever had running. Embarrassed to confess, don't recall the time. Then again, never was a fast runner.

Damn, now with suck-ass circulation I am tickled if I ca walk 5 miles, without too many rest stops. My advise run, enjoy and tell the stories often

Actually, my wife ran this one. I did run Philadelphia a week ago with a time if 5:35:30. I am not fast, but I am steady. My wife runs much faster.
