These are really good. Not overcooked and the HDR is natural as there are still shadows where they should be. Really really good.
Please share your setup and settings (bracketing, aperature, F vakues etc)
I shoot mostly sports and weddings but would like to shoot landscape when i get the opportunity.

I use aperture priority mode and bracket 5 shots @ +1 and -1 increments. Aperture between 8-11 the sweet spot for this lens. The sunburst was @f22. All were handheld except the portrait shot. A wide lens is easy to hand hold except in low light such as the cascade image.

I do not shoot in raw due to my post processing methods and minimal computer power. I run them through Machinery HDR software as it does a great job at keeping the images natural and does it for a low price. 39.95 I believe.

I then run the saved merged file through Corel Paintshop Pro software and usually bump the clarity up a little and maybe a bit of vibrancy if I think they are a little dull yet. I would guess each image has 20-30 minutes of PP time. A better computer would help speed this up but I would rather invest that money towards glass and travel.

Anymore questions let me know and I will try and answer best I can. Thanks.

Decided to post some of my work from this year. Most are shot with a Tokina 11-16mm lens, all are shot on a Nikon D7100 and all are multishot HDR captures. It has been a great year, as my body of work has made great leaps the past year. I will post more as time allows. Hope you enjoy.

Went there after the Eclipse last August and loved it. Already making plans to return in may for an extended stay. I would like to explore the stronghold unit if I could find a guide.

My son and I noticed one morning how the horizontal lines can create an off balance feeling.

Nice shot.

No one comprehends what they read anymore. A professional image is one that captures the viewers eye and makes them stop and look at it. It pulls them into it and makes them feel as though they are there. It brings about an emotional response and unites both the hearts and minds of the viewer.

It is a picture that their imaginations keep returning to. That engagement is what binds us to a scene of the photograph, it's what seizes the spirit and won't let you leave. The image connects on a personal level. This to me is what all professional quality images have while the others don't.

Lovely photo. Is it "right out of the camera?" I enjoy drawing, water colors and pastels, but when using my camera I try to get the photo "in the camera," not with post processing.

Most images should and need to have post done to them. I never understand people who believe in this "straight out of the camera" philosophy. Photography is an art form in itself and this almost always requires PP. A great photographer manipulates light and turns it into Art. The camera is just a tool along with computer software. The art comes from their mind and vision the same as a sculptor or a painter. Nothing "straight" out of the camera can compete...

I shoot mostly HDR and use aperture priority to keep my lens at its sweet spot. Also to control DOF. Occasionally I use shutter priority for HDR to get a desired water effect.

O', I have a very good idea of who he was and most likely know as much if not more than you do about him, from the smallest detail to the largest and most well-know detail. For example, I know that his drive regarding photography caused him to die with no family in attendance and only his photography assistant to be by his side; I know that his constant striving in photography caused him to have a very unhappy marriage although he and his wife stayed together and that his children had little love for him; I know that he was a "ladies man," and loved alcohol and parties. I know that it is because of him that we all know photography as an art today and that if not for him and his incredible intellect photography might not be what it is today nor, most likely, would our technology in the art of photography be what it is. Other than Edward Stieglitz, Ansel Adams contributed the most knowledge and insight into photography and into placing it as an art than any other photographer of his day . I study him extensively and have learned much through this study about how to take a photo; I'm much more an f.64 type than a Pictorial type. I just wanted to check that this particular photo was in the public domain, as many are, since we are all, as photographers, concerned with that when a photo is posted, it would be good to say that in the post, attribution is usually good when posting a photo. I also wanted to know if there was an actual point, a discussion point, so to speak, not just a quote. I've read almost, have one more book to get, every bio written about him and his auto-biography and his letters and his photo technique books. Just now I'm finishing up the f.64 book, good read and includes a lot of information on the other photographers "in the day." In fact one of them, Walker Evans, currently has an exhibition at the San Francisco Modern Museum of Art for all the Northern California photographers on this site, it goes until February. Also getting to know Doreathea Lange better through books on her. It's too bad I don't have a better memory, darn! Do not assume, based on responses, what people might know or not know about a particular subject.

Someone needs to chill and drink some decaf. The funny thing is no one likes a tattle tale and this is after all just a forum for the exchange of ideas and information. No go run and tell the teacher on us...Wow....

I never cull an image. With the advancement of computers and software these days there will be a fix for any sub-par image in the near future for most problems. It goes in the archive to become fineart in the future. Drive space is cheap.

Trashing public land is my favorite pet peeve. I can't cure it but I have found a way to lessen my frustration. If I see anyone casually throw trash on the ground I immediately pick it up, put a smile on my face and get the culprits attention by politely saying, "excuse me, I think you dropped something". I wait two beats which is just enough time for them to say, "oh, thank you" and put their hand out. I toss the garbage in their face or if they happen to be in a car I throw it in their lap and run like hell!

I've had some close calls but the satisfaction is worth the risk.

Death wish? Seriously this is a great way to get stuck, shot or at the least punched. You have no idea whom you could be messing with. Throwing it in their face could be considered simple assault and they would be in their rights to swing at you.

I never ask for critique. I like what I do and how I do it. I am my worst critic and am always striving to do better than the last time. There is really nothing that can help in a forum setting to ask for critiques from strangers you don't know.

The best thing is to do your own thing. Study online when ever possible and above all practice every chance you get.

As far as you saying pics had no business being posted is the very point I was making. One man's opinion.

Post on SM twitter,Facebook, instagram as the main 3. Sell on Red Bubble, & fineart America. Published 5 times in the past year in Our Iowa Magazine.

Earning money on all three with the most lucrative being the magazine as it paid for tires and a trip to Blackhills.

Red Bubble is free and does best for me online with little advertising. I am not getting rich but it helps support an expensive hobby.
