It depends. Please let us know your level of expertise/experience and what your needs are. How would you use this bridge camera? I have an older SX50 that I really have enjoyed, but I may go for a DSLR or a mirror less. But, I would have to convince my Minister of Finance of the need.
The Sx540 is a nice bridge camera, less expensive than a DSLR, lighter than a DSLR, is certainly not a full-frame sensor so not as good in low-light situations, and as a bridge you don't have to buy and carry multiple lenses.
But again, it depends...

The camera would be for my 15 year old grandson. It would be his first camera.

I concur. I have had a Tamron SP 500mm since it was new. For the price, I have found it remarkable. Like all cat lenses, it has its limitations (mostly due to lens speed), but within those limitations is more than adequate. It is light weigh, and can be hand held with decent results when there is enough light for a fairly fast shutter speed. I use it rarely, but keep it for those few times when it is appropriate. I have never regretted having it.

I stupidly purchased a 900mm mirror lens. Yes I know, why the heck would I do that. I get that but need some help. I have now held the lens Past the 30 day return period and am stuck with it.
The focus ring is so hard to turn it makes it unusable. When you attempt to turn the ring the lens comes loose from the mount adapter.
I realize this was dumb but I need a possible solution. Please no “you shouldn’t have done it comments”. I know that and feel stupid enough already.
The only consolation is it was cheap enough that I can eat the lose, but it would be nice to try and use it.

Thanks for bailing me out.

I purchased a used Tamron 200-500 at The Photo Center at a reasonable price and have been very pleased with it. Also bought a ProMaster tripod with which I am very pleased.

Will the RF 800mm f11 lens retain autofocus on a RP camera when using an RF extender

What I have read indicates it will retain autofocus on an R5 or R6 but doesn’t mention an R or RP

Thank You

Looking at adding this to my list of lenses yet would like to hear from those of you who have it and those who have chosen not to own one.
