I have seen, and experienced, that too. Very dangerous!

Yes, the Victor "hot wrench." When all else fails.....

I didn't know F1 cars used unleaded racing fuel. Why? Just curious.

I don't have any direct knowledge of F1, but as I recall they always used gasoline, racing gas, high octane (detonation resistance). When Honda was in F1 they supposedly blended their own gas, which apparently met specs for specific gravity, etc., but which reportedly contained a carefully selected and blended array of distillates, along with some other pretty toxic stuff. (Benzine was pretty common in racing fuels for many years, may still be, but it is considered pretty toxic.) Like tire rules, fuel rules are supposed to "level the playing field." But in those days, as Smoky (Yunick) said, "They didn't say you couldn`t."

Why unleaded? To be green and eco-friendly. Lead is a lot cheaper and helps exhaust valve life, but it is certainly toxic. I believe NASCAR is using a blend of unleaded gas and ethanol, E15. Again it is green (literally in this case) and eco-friendly (if you believe it is better to turn corn into gas rather than food), and I suspect the alky helps detonation control. Alky was originally added to gas to lean-out the mixture in the carburator days, to reduce hc emissions. It continued in use into the FI days to augment limited fuel supplies.

Top Fuel dragster and funny cars (the quickest ones on the planet) use Nitro Methane which is somewhere on a 90% plus to fuel ratio. Very small amount of gasoline. The] Indy cars and F1 cars use alcohol.

Not exactly. Top fuel and funny cars run on a mix of nitromethane and methanol (methal alcohol). Nitromethane does not mix with gasoline. (Nitropropane however.... )

Last time I was around that stuff, they did squirt some gasoline into the injectors to help start the motor. Once is starts it is run on 100% methanol for a few seconds, then switched to nitro. Thay no longer run on "pure" nitro. Rules allow a maximum of 90% nitro to keep speeds down.

F1 cars run on unleaded racing gas (no more of the "who knows what" that Honda used to run).

Indy cars used to run on methanol with a bit of "pop" (nitromethane). Now (and for sometime) they run on ethanol (ethyl alcohol), which is more suitable for drinking, but is considered more eco-friendly.

Diesel engines were tried at Indy 60 years ago or so, without success.
Ford used gasoline at Indy, again 50 or 60 years ago. The theory was it made less horsepower, but would make fewer pit stops. It was somewhat sucessful, but gasoline is considered less safe (fire hazard) than alcohol, so it was eventually banned.

Just fyi....

When I worked for "Uncle Pete" Petersen (Petersen Publishing Co.) that was the "advice" of the editor who hired me. Publications then depended on both subscription fees and advertising revenue. We had to keep both happy. You could learn quite a bit by reading "between the lines."

Chromebooks are indeed intended primarily for on-line use, thru the Chrome web browser and/or several others including Firefox. But there are many free apps available thru thru Google Play for word processing, spread sheets, photo post processing, games and many others which do not require internet connection to operate. They are stored on the chromebook just like a windows or apple laptop.

Many if not all modern Chromebooks have a standard USB connector, to which you can connect an SSD, and also an SD or micro-SD slot. A 400gb high-speed micro SD card with adapter is about $80 at costco. You will have to go into settings to make the SD card available to all the apps, and you usually can not load apps into the SD card, but you can easily download to, upload from and store data files, photos, tunes, vids, documents etc. to the SD card or external SSD.

The chrome OS is much simpler than windows and requires much less processing power. Chromeboks are not for power users, they are more for everyday, ordinary users. And they are typically cheaper.

One other thing, the chromebook OS is physically protected. It is still possible to be impacted by malware, but less likely than windows. And if it is somehow corrupted, you can do a factory reset easily from onboard PROM. And that prom is protected with a hardware read-only protection (typically an actual bolt or soldered wire connection). You have to physically disassemble the chromebook to remove the read-only and alter the prom.

Chromebooks were and are intended for on-line use, but they handle all the normal laptop computer functions off-line too, just like windows or mac. The only real difference is processing power. The chromebook is entirely adequate for normal use.

If the intended use is not highly intensive, a chrombook is entirely adequate.

My first camera was a Konica Auto S2, 35mm rangefinder, bought new from Frank's Camera in Highland Park, CA, in 1972. Its 45mm lens is one of the sharpest lenses I've ever owned. Still in great condition, but I much prefer the instant gratification of today's digital equipment.

Yes, according to the on-line user manual, the center button is the menu button.

When a bit of media doesn't record or play back properly, I give it a mercifully quick demise with a sledge hammer and bury it in the circular vertical file (trash can).

It's odd that people obsess over a card that won't work... 43 years ago, I'd pay around $30 for two rolls of Kodachrome and two processing mailers. I'd get just 72 slides. Today, $30 gets me two High Speed UHS-I SDXC 64GB 90/45 MB/S U3 A1 C10 V30 Memory Cards, for my GH4. And there's an indefinite limit to the number of images or hours of video I can record on it. (I transfer files and re-format the card in the camera for another use.) I've used the same two cards for six years with no issues.

Knowing that, I have zero tolerance for a card that doesn't work. I'm no longer beholden to a film addiction for imaging. So, should I have to smash one and replace it, I could care less. There are far worse values in life.

Yup but the hard part is to find a speaker with the 1/4" phone plug. You can do it yourself but requires soldering. It's a shame that now I can't simply run to the local Radio Shack to get everything I need to to make up one such speaker.

Screw-type connector:

I think it's just 1 speaker not a pair. Speaker with 8 ohms impedance should be fine. There is no need for powered speaker.

Yes, I agree. But it is often easier to find a pair of speakers at a thrift store, rather than just one. Now you have a spare.
