What was the rest of yr camera setting plse?

Baz

I honestly cannot remember all the exposure settings. Once I download the photo to the computer, the settings are lost because my computer can't read them.

BUT, I can tell you my method. Please don't get me wrong here, I AM NOT any kind of an expert on this. This is just what usually works for me. The "correct" exposure can be different each night depending on the weather. Start off with a very clear night.

Camera............. Canon T3i
Exposure Mode.... Aperture Priority
Metering Mode.... Spot
ISO.................. 200 (tripod), 1600-3200 (rolled blanket)
White Balance..... Some nights "daylight" is better, but other
nights "cloudy" gives better results.
Lens................. Canon Kit Lens: 75-300mm @ 300mm
Aperture............ f/8

I meter off the center of the moon. This will UNDERexpose the first photo. I then use the EXPOSURE COMPENSATION
to INCREASE the exposure by 1/3 stop for each of the next
four to five exposures. I have never had a fear of making too many exposures.

For me, it's almost impossible to get most of the moon correctly exposed and not have some hot spots. That's why I shoot a bunch and work with the best one.

Thank you Kindly for that great information. It looks like an amazing area from our limited view miles away. I would certainly love having a tour guide if you interested, but doubt we will be back in the area till next Fall...unless, I can convience my wife otherwise. I believe I saw a special on NPT about the Cumberland Gorge (think that might be the same one), and it was breathtaking. Thanks for informing me...appreciate it very much.

I am planning to get back into the BSFNRRA before long. When I do, I will post a few photos.

It's an explanation as to why the top does not match the bottom.

Have you ever used this position when you were on the telephone!! Have you ever seen any other President in the oval office so disrespectful of other people’s property!!!
I and sick of seeing this man putting his feet on the historical furniture once again!!

I've seen this quite a few times in circulating e-mails.

Probably Photoshopped to stir up trouble.

Wow...your not far away. We noticed as we were leaving the Smokies heading north on 321 back to I-40, there is another big mountain range in that direction beyond Oak Ridge. After looking at a map...that area is close to where you live. It must be very pretty where you are. We may explore this area someday. It looks like another great range of mountains.

You were looking at the Cumberland Mountains. We live on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau but the scenery is beautiful.

If you have not been in this area, you are really missing a lot of photo opportunities. Scott County has the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. The "gorge" is something to see any time of the year. If you make it up this way, send me a PM and we'll do the tour OR maybe I can point you to a couple of interesting places.

Thanks for looking AND for the comments.

I guess it would have been somewhat sharper if I had
used a tripod, but, let's face it, I'm lazy.

Those are really nice photos. I haven't been to the Smokies in several years, even though I don't live that far away.

I live in Huntsville, about 60 miles northwest of Knoxville.

Thanks for the "trip"!

Yes, it's a tree frog. Those little thingamajiggers on the ends of its "fingers and toes" are tiny suction cups that allow it to climb just about anywhere.

Last night at 10:30pm, I heard an owl. Getting dressed and grabbing my camera on this dark night, I set the ISO to 12800 and selected shutter priority and ventured to the wood. The hoots guided me; I soon got this shot. I know, I know...but hey, look at his eyes. If anyone can improve my night skills, let me know. But hey, the night WAS DARK!

I really like the first one. I even like the "noise"!!

There are a couple of things I would try with this photo. I would crop a little more off of the left side then lighten/saturate the yellow in the eyes.

However, this is a fine photo as it is. I think most of us would have missed this shot by thinking it just couldn't be done.

I shot some super moon pics, but I had a small tripod which was too light for my lens so I just brought a new tripod, waiting for the next full moon, praying for clear skies. Shooting with Canon 7D

Why is the first photo so dark? Or is just my monitor?
