I will check into those models. I tried to stay away because of the price, but if I can get one at the right price that would be a better bet. Thx.
Hello,
I am beginning to search for a "new" camera. I currently have a Nikon D40 and it is alright because I am still basically a beginner, but I feel I could do better with a higher quality cam. Another reason I am looking is that I want to upgrade my video camera. It is an HD camera, but very old as well.
The reason for needing suggestions is that I would like to know if I should combine photography AND video. I will not be doing any heavy video shooting, but I will be mainly shooting kid's football, basketball, etc.
Currently considering the Nikon D5300 and 5600 models. (refurb or buyer-to-buyer purchase) I would like to stay with Nikon since I have a fairly decent lens I would like to use.
If anyone has or has had these models please let me know if they would be suitable for light photog and video.
@Longshadow. Can you explain how you cropped to 5 x 7? I guess my PS v7 edition is too old to see what I am cropping to OR I just do not have that view enabled to see it.
Thanks also.
@Linda. I am putting the picture in a frame with medals and the only option for this frame is 5 x 7. I could choose another frame, but that will wipe out all my work on the medal portion.
The option to add a title bar is a good idea as I was going to put a card or something with her name and date on it. I will try that and see what I can do as well.
I am not against cropping, but after cropping how can it be stretched to look normal. Again, I do not do well with aspect ratios so I need the ABC's of how to do it.
Hello,
I have a photo that was not taken by me and it is in what I think to be really large format (5472 x 3648 pixels). I have never been good with sizing and ratios with photography and I have a very old copy of Photoshop 7 and would like to make it into a 5x7 portrait.
Can someone explain to me how to achieve this and keep the perspective the same?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
By "up for grabs", I mean that it is easy to just right-click-> save image as... Of course, if someone gets up in arms about any image on the web and wants to spend money to take you to court you will lose.
From the overwhelming response, I can see that is generally ok to use a pic for a DT image as long as it is alright with the owner. My intent is and never will be to use it for gain, but just enjoy an image that I like to see on a regular basis as I work.
I get the idea of ANYTHING on the interwebs is up for grabs, but it is always better (ethically) to ask the owner for permission.
Thanks for the honest and insightful comments as usual.

It is polite to ask. You could send a PM to the user.
Thanks dsmeltz. Good to know.
Sort of new, but I had a question about viewing member's pictures. I have seen several that I like. I work on my computer daily and like to have a variety of background images. Is it proper here to download images for that purpose only? I would NEVER use images to gain anything monetarily or claim as my own.
This may be covered somewhere in the posted rules, but I am asking because I have not see it stand out to me. Hope this does not put anyone off and please let me know if it does... I have thick skin and am not a spring chicken.
Thanks.
In spades that is called "sandbagging". Welcome to the forum... and GREAT!! photo BTW.
Karno, that is inspiring!! Good set!
It's gotta be black and white for a subject with such classic features.
