I met this gentleman and thought his appearance was worthy of taking a portrait.
Does the black and white say more than the color? Which works best?
Taken with P1000 in portrait mode. 1st time using this mode

In the color image, the branches in the background are less distinct. But both are good portraits.

The background in the color pic is basically monochromatic which, I feel, makes the subject model stand out. That is my choice over the black and white which I also found appealing.

In the bw one the subject recedes into the background, making him look smaller. I suspect that is because the branches have more weight in the photo than in the color one where they are secondary.

I always tend to favor the B&W's but the color version is equally well presented and he is compelling subject matter no matter which you prefer.

I think color works best for this image also, noting the limbs become more prominent in the B&W version which takes away from your subject.
