I dont use cloud services. Dangerous and clunky.

As someone who is a network security professional I have to dispute this. Cloud services are an absolute necessity. You MUST have off-site backups. In case of a disaster (like fire, flood, or regional natural events like tropical storms and hurricanes) you can lose EVERYTHING that is at a single location of even a region. You should have, at a minimum, your "working" files, an external backup (on USB drive, NAS, server... whatever), and a CLOUD BACKUP in case of a larger scale disaster. This is a minimum if you value your files.

DigMyPics (https://www.digmypics.com/) will scan them for you. They do a great job at a good price and deal with nearly every media type. I had some "stereo slides" from the early 1950's and in their scanning process they combined the two (slightly different) slides from each picture into a single jpg.

I second CottonCarrier - I have used the Skout since it was released and found it effortless to carry the camera and to quickly take shots.

I only presumed they did not backup the RW2 format as it was not listed on their site as a supported RAW format. The few I tried last night uploaded but show as jpg’s when viewed in the app. So, obviously something uploaded. But is the raw file there if I ever need to download it? I wrote them, but have not heard anything back yet.

The file types they list are the file types they store for free, and do not count against your overall storage usage. In other words, files of the type they list are stored for FREE and other file types are charged against your paid storage.

I have two Separate NAS devices - one for "working" photos and the other for an "All Photos Backup." For off-site storage I use my Amazon Prime photos account and recently uploaded more than 11,000 Canon RAW photos without issue. Using the Prime Photos application uses some CPU in the background, but the 11,000 photos took just over four hours to back up and I continued to use my computer as usual without any issue.

If you can't afford to go full-frame and mirrorless, you can't afford to go from good to great.

And, if everyone is being honest, most of us already have cameras that are far more capable than we are.

I expect you know that most DSLRs including yours limits video recording time to 29 Minutes, 59 Seconds!

Any camera that can take "a video 30 minutes or more in length" is defined as a "Video" camera and falls into a higher tariff category. Thus the 29 minutes and 59 seconds limit.

I was out today looking for some asbestos insulation to improve the R-rating in my attic. Did you know they don't sell asbestos insulation anymore? I had to buy some stuff I never heard of before! I'm going to go out now and take pictures of the dead weeds that I sprayed with Round-Up last week, with my Canon F-1. I just can't decide to shoot slides or film. Seriously, who asked this question AGAIN and how did it get to five pages of discussion before I received my digest?

What nadelewitz said! Laplink fails miserbly to do what it claims to do - it rarely restores programs in working condition. Data is simple to move, manually or with many programs. See https://www.windowscentral.com/how-transfer-your-data-old-pc-new-pc for options.

I see many discussions about storage, backup, retrieving photos from USB devices, SD Cards, etc.
I am posting some information about Synology NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices which come with software designed for Photographers. (I do not work for or have any financial interest in Synology, I have simply used their devices on large corporate networks for two decades). Note that a Synology NAS is a device with it's own interface and dozens of free software packages already on the device and ready to install. You have to purchase the hard drives seperately, but you can choose the number of drives and their size, and the RAID level you want to use (all through a simple, easy-to-understand web interface).

The text that follows is fromtheir News email which I receive periodically. Probably the most informative link is Synology Photo Station. Maybe this is a useful solution for many forum members. It is not intended to be an advertisement and I apologize in advance if this posting isn't appropriate.

Having Affinity, ACDsee, Luminar3, ON1Photo Raw 2019, Aurora HDR, and all Anthropics products (having spent 40 years developing software and hardware I buy software more than lenses) I would give my vote to Luminar or Affinity depending on how much control you want. Luminar is easier for someone who does not do a lot of post processing.

However, you should be forwarned that NOTHING is free, and the cost may come as a monthly charge, an version update charge, and annual charge, or a subscription "support" charge (as long as you want to keep up with the latest version.)

Thanks for a bit of reason, LFingar. This announcement is like Costco saying there has been a sixty percent (60%) decrease in the sales of rotisserie chickens... not a reason for us to think Costco is now going to close it's doors due to this tremendous drop in retisserie chicken sales ;-)
