I see many discussions about storage, backup, retrieving photos from USB devices, SD Cards, etc.
I am posting some information about Synology NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices which come with software designed for Photographers. (I do not work for or have any financial interest in Synology, I have simply used their devices on large corporate networks for two decades). Note that a Synology NAS is a device with it's own interface and dozens of free software packages already on the device and ready to install. You have to purchase the hard drives seperately, but you can choose the number of drives and their size, and the RAID level you want to use (all through a simple, easy-to-understand web interface).
