Occasionally, I have to pinch myself to see if I actually captured these images or was I just dreaming. At this time of year, I can be found spending hours once a week taking plenty of hummingbird images. I may take thousands of images in a day but most go in the king size trash bin of my computer. I often hope for multiple birds in one image and sometimes miracles happen. Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

[quote=LEGALDR]No matter where you live in the USA, this coming week will provide you with a number of great opportunities to take pictures of fireworks. Many of us do not do this on a regular basis and therefore I will do a little review for myself I am reviewing my file on "Fireworks Photography" as I type. I will be using my tripod. I don't use it enough so I will dust it off first. I will try to locate my cable release or refresh my memory on how I use Bulb on the camera that I will be using.

Last year. Most are at 5 second exposure.

I am in the market for my first entry level DSLR in the $800.00-$1000.00 range.
Back in the 80's I shot 35mm on a Yeshicha FX-D with an assortment of lenses, but it bit the dust years ago.
Right now I have a point and shoot Sony Cybershot H2 that I use for eBay stuff.

I am willing to accept the kit lens 18-140 to start out with for convenience, however I would like to expand the lens selection as my experence and abilities progress.
Cost and selection of Canon/Nikon and aftermarket lenses will come into play.
I want to shoot family photos, portraits, landscapes, macro, wildlife and some sports, but not much
I have never shot video on a camera, but that might be a deciding factor as well.
No grandkids yet, but I can see where video would be great for capturing family moments.

I would like an articulating touch screen.
Good selection of inexpensive Canon/Nikon and aftermarket lenses.
Easy menu system for beginners, but with the capability of going full manual as I progress.
Touch to focus looks like it would be great for beginners.
Diopter adjustment for my eyesight.
I am trying to decide between the Nikon D5500 and the Canon T6s.
After watching this video I chose 8 of 12 photos in favor of the Canon, but does that mean it is the right camera?

Most of you guys on the forum are professional caliber photographers, but I can't afford that high dollar equipment.
I want a good camera foundation that can be expanded on as I learn more about the techniques that it takes to get professional results.
Having said that, there may be other/better options that I have overlooked?

Also, I have a beautiful wife that I would like get some creative shots of.
You know the type.

Love the shots. I moved into the DSLR market with the D5600 and the "kit" lens 18-140 vr and the 70-300 VR lens. I love the 18-140. Super sharp, rairly comes off the camera. Not as happy with the 70-300 vr etc.
The 5600 has the articulating screen and is one of the lightest DSLRs. I'm not a pro and at my age have no ambition to be one but I love my 5600. Food for thought, hope it helps.

Hello, I’m new here. My name is Tom.
I have been doing photography off and on since I was 10 and I am 85 now. Back when digital photography was beginning my friend talked me into abandoning all my Nikon film DSLRs and my darkroom to switch to digital. This was a big upheaval for me then. My first and still digital DSLRs are Nikons D100 & 200. My lenses are a Tamron 28-200 mm and a Nikor AF-S ED 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6GIF. I used these cameras mostly for my work from which I am retired. I also have a Canon Power Shot SD850 IS which has been great for traveling Europe and other places since it fits in the palm of my hand and any pocket. I want to come out of my cave and move forward into the multiple mega pixel world. I am considering the Nikon D5600 with a 2 lens kit. It is on sale from Nikon (probably other places also). My question, if anyone has made it this far, is: does anyone own or have experience with this camera and deem this a proper upgrade for me from what I currently own. I want to begin again taking images of the word, as in my days of old, other than my grandchildren. Would appreciate any points or suggestions. Thank you for your indulgence.

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the forum. I purchased a D5600 last year and really like it. I went for a kit with the 18-140 VR and the 70-300 VR. Honestly, the 18-140 rairly come off the camera. I love it. Not the fastest lens but the 5600 is very forgiving with higher ISO. One of the things that helped my decision was the size/weight of it and the way it fit my hand (a bit arthritic). You've been given lots of good advice but in the end it's your choice to make. If you can, go to a store and handle a few of them before you decide. Good luck with your search.

If you want a bag which does not scream; "camera, come steal me", try a Billingham Overnighter leisure bag. They look like a gym bag, and no one will want to steal your smelly jock straps / tennis shoes. Put some of the Billingham Superflex Partitions into the bag, to hold lenses, etc, and you will have enough padding.

Obviously you didn't read my reply. Why would I want to spend at least $200 extra dollars for a bag that doesn't appear to have any better padding or protection than the Amazon. If you have money to piss away, go for it. If people know about Billingham they would steal it just because the bag is expensive.

I have to agree with the replies about Amazon Basics bags. They are well padded on all sides, well made and incredibly priced. I thought it was too good to be true but it's not, IMHO. They also don't scream camera come steal me. Amazon gives you the internal dimensions on the page. Just need to do your due diligence.

PLEASE, I DO NOT WANT A RAW VRS JPEG DISCUSSION. I have seen enough of those. You don't like jpeg, fine. But this is NOT the thread to explain to me and others why we should avoid jpeg.

My question is about real world experiences of those WHO DO USE JPEG in the area of degradation. I am asking if jpeg users have ever had to discard formerly good photos because they saw too much degradation after multiple edits. If so, how many edits? Were they saved at highest quality or compressed more each time?

Your question has been answered. Don't ever save over the original image. Always save a copy after editing. You'll lose nothing that way.

Definitely a banded/Brown water snake. Both the copperhead and water moccasin have vertical pupils and pits. I've seen dozens of them killed as terrible venomous snakes by great white hunters on float trips. Fortunately they are pretty prolific breeders. There's no need to kill any snake in the woods. I'm home lawns maybe.

I want to know what bags have worked and which haven't. I want to be able to put it under my seat or in the overhead of the smaller regional jets. Last time I had to gate check my Pelican 1510 and that doesn't set well with me.

I did quite a bit of research before I bought this sling pack. I can't believe the inexpensive price for the quality. I've had it and carried it everywhere I go since November and it still looks new. I wanted something easy to deal with and not scream steal me.

The inside is completely flexible. I have (from memory probably forgetting something). Nikon D5600 with 18-140 and sunshade attached, 70-300 VR lens, large GoPro speedlight, small kit flash, Canon point and shoot, Vivitar teleconverter and wide angle, two 3 count sets of filters and a jumbo Ziploc all in just the main compartment which is orange to show contrast. It also has an upper compartment which is large enough to hold an SLR body if desired. Zippers are harty and quite smooth. Side entry allows super quick but safe access.
I know this sounds like I work for Amazon but I don't and still find it hard to believe this bag was under 20 bucks on sale. 23 normal price. Small enough to go almost anywhere including under airline seat but big enough to hold most anything I need.

Do your own research but don't disqualify it for price.

New to the group and looking to get back into DSLR photography. My history, started with 35mm in the late 60's, went to Canon EOS Elan with several lenses and 1000's of photos, Konica Minolta Dimage (?) which I haven't used in probably 10 years. I have a budget of around $1000 and have been looking at the Nikon D5600 with multiple lenses in refurbished to get more bang for my buck. There are multiple packages offered thru ebay from RedTag, Cameta, etc. I know to watch out for bootleg cameras with no factory support. Any of the dealers I should watch out for, be steered to or back up and start over? The more I read the more I'm confused. Now the D7500 looks like an option. I'm certainly not a pro, but more than a beginner. I enjoy nature/animal/closeup/sports photography. Recently upgraded cell phone but never been happy with what they produce and the transfer lost 3 plus years of my photographs about our full time rving. Never want to rely on one again as I'll never replace those photos. Any advice is welcomed, thanks for your input and expertise..

Welcome to the forum. My background is similar to yours as well as the time. I also spent years with a medium level point and shoot also. Last year I went through the same process of selection. I decided on the D5600 with the 18-140 and 70-300 lenses. I dearly love the 18-140. It only leaves my camera when I need the extra reach.

I had narrowed down to a few and my decision was made by holding the finalists in my hand. The 5600 was much lighter and fit my hand perfectly. I'm no pro and have no plans to be but I've produced shots of concerts that the bands use for their public advertisements.
I wanted a camera I would want to carry around and not kill my aging body. Go and hold some cameras Best buy doesn't seem to take offense to letting you try them.
Good luck with your search and decision. I love my D5600. A great all around camera.

any recommendations on speedlights for Nikon 5100 camera?

After a lot of research and help from UHH members I bought the Godox V860IIN lion from Amazon for my D5600 and love it. It's not the smallest but good for general purpose and the system is expandable as my needs grow. I couldn't justify the cost of the Nikon lights for my amateur needs. Hope this helps you.
