You could go with a D7xxx series camera and get a superior pentaprism viewfinder. The D3xxx and D5xxx series Nikons have a pentamirror viewfinder. The glass prism viewfinder in a D7xxx series and higher Nikons gives a larger and slightly brighter view through the viewfinder. I think it helps with composition and focusing manually.

Do you DO any macro work? Use that lens for shooting "close ups" of flowers or insects. You can get only so close and your done. that's why I said it should be called a close up lens. you'll be VERY disappointed if you think you'll be doing some great MACRO with it. no need to get all bent out of shape. It's like using a Little League bat in the Major Leagues.

Not exactly correct. Nikon does allow authorized service centers to repair most non-current grey market models. They just will not work on them in their two factory repair centers in NY or LA

Thanks for the info MT..bought a D7100 grey market a couple yrs ago and it was always in the back of my mind..although I probably wouldn't do it again, you gave me piece of mind !

Thanks, Stash.. That clown should be glad I didn't say what I REALLY thought about his comment, but.... sometimes, you have to consider the source and make allowances for asininity.

He was no artist.... he was a liberal, anti-gun nut that took the opportunity to try and spread his BS about how awful guns are. He's talking to the wrong man. But, keyboard commando are like that.... knowing that he doesn't have to say it to my face... in person. Lucky for him.

Vary the Shutter speed only. This keeps the depth of field constant throughout the series.

I have Canon DPP v4 but I was hoping for something better. I am trying to see if Photoscape X or GIMP might be a better option. I am not ready for Lightroom or Photoshop. I would like a program that process RAW & JPEG.

I appreciate any feedback.

I personally use Photoscape X after watching Tony Northrup's YT video , although most of the things he says I take with a grain of salt..He was correct on this one..I have heard GIMP is great also but a steeper learning curve from what I understand..Photoscape can do more things than people realize and I am happy with it.

B&H is very good - haven't done a lot with KEH, but good transactions. My favorite and best experiences with Roberts Camera Used Photo Pro. Price, quality, service through many transactions just excellent.

The best Nikon macro lens, IMHO, is the Nikon 60mm 2.8 D. Find one below in Mint condition and buy it. You will enjoy.

You may also want to consider the Nikon 105mm 2.8 D micro.

I like the older D series of the Nikon Macro lens. And I do shot it off the D850 and D3s.
Below is an example of the 60 mm D, I think, either that or it was the 105 D.
The best Nikon macro lens, IMHO, is the Nikon 60mm... (show quote)

I own both those lenses also..the 60mm is especially amazing...bought it on the recommendation from Ken Wheeler (Angry Photographer)..that guy is spot on with his recommendations

SB800's from Ebay. The head can be turned up and behind you for pleasing indoor flash. I set my camera to manual and my flash on TTL. Works really well.

I really didn't mean your bacon will burn but your really asking for it with your current equipment.
Here is my helpful suggestion, use your fastest lens, the AF-S 18-70mm 1:3-4:5G. Your going to have to get higher on your ISO, shoot at no smaller than f5.6, your really going to have a shallow depth of field so use it at 18 mm to 24 mm.
IF it was me, I would use my SB800, turn the flash head up and behind you and use a black felt paper and put it around the end of your flash to make a funnel and use a elastic girls ponytail band to secure it to your flash. Using the flash this way will retain a lot of candle effect. Use manual on the camera and TTL on the flash. A base exposure might be 1/30 sec. at f8, then adjust your ISO to get the effect you want.
I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU GO TO THE VENUE BEFORE THE EVENT AND TRY OUT THESE TECHNIQUES.
And, if there is a NEXT time, let a pro do the work.
