What is a Nikon D7200 black? I did a search and came up with black Friday on the hogg. Would really like to know about this term and understand the grey market term. Considering buying a camera as used on FB and black was a descriptive term.

Thanks for any help offered.

It means iit's black. Gray market items are not covered by a US warranty so you are financially liable.

Grey market cameras cannot be fixed by Nikon or its service affiliates new or used - for any price. You must rely on independent repair guys, and parts from places other than Nikon. But I have to tell you, I never heard of the term "black" applied to legitimate cameras.

Not exactly correct. Nikon does allow authorized service centers to repair most non-current grey market models. They just will not work on them in their two factory repair centers in NY or LA

Funny. I've never heard of a USA camera referred to as Black. Neither has Google.

Get a personal property insurance policy for your non-warranty camera gear. It’s cheap for amateurs. Mine with State Farm covers repair or replacement, no deductible, no depreciation from purchase price.

Nikon did offer a red camera in the 5xxx and the 3xxx series of cameras. However, I don't think it extended to the 7xxx series.

I wonder if it's a hold over from the ol' film days when many of Nikon's cameras (FE, FM, etc) came in your choice of black or silver? And as tallshooter noted, they currently offer some lines in red on occasion.

A majority of cameras come in silver and in black. Black is very popular.

IMO, "Black" would refer to "Black Market" which would mean stolen.

A gray market camera can be sent to it's country of origin for authorized Nikon repair either under warranty on when it is out of warranty.

Maybe if you let us know where you saw/heard this reference it would be easier to put it in context.

If it's black market it's illegal although it's not stolen good.
