Hey, bmike, fungus and mold are usually caused by standing water, or water soaked conditions.

What are water soaked conditions? I'm so happy to hear that humidity is not likely to cause mold and fungus!

Why not take both - use the wide for the group and the tele for individual head shots.

I planned on taking both but want to know how each is used. Mu favorite and prefered lens is th 18-55 but would like to know in what situation I might want to use the 55-200

I have a guy who says he wants me to take some photos of musicians. Cool. Well, I have two lenses; an 18-55 and a 55-200. Which lens should I use and why would I choose it? I'm not sure if I'm going to be taking pictures of the musicians in action or what so please let me know why I would use one lens over the other.

Would never discourage you, Mike, but I live in SW FL (Naples area) year around and have never experienced your concerns with any of my camera equipment. My equipment stays in my Den when I am not using it so it stays cooled and dried - with no problems showing up when I take it outside.

So then what causes fungus?

I followed the discussion about moisture with interest seeing as I live in FL and do not want fungus in my lenses. So much so that I purchased some silica packets and a water tight cooler. however this lesves me with a question: how many 3 gram silica packets should I put in the cooler? Another question: Should I squeeze the flashes and other non camera things in there as well?

This is a restaurant in the park and I thought it would make a great image. What do you think?

If you want RAW editing capability for free, GIMP seems to still be the best product, but I find it clunky and rather slow to learn.

I think a better program than Gimp is darktable. I never edit with anything else.
Here are the modules I use:
- lens correction
- base curve -> fusion
- white balance
- perspective correction
- crop and rotate image
- spot removal
- shadows and hilights (start with just turning on) (radius)(3D)
- contrast brig...ss saturation
- color zones
- local contrast = sharpen image (detail) (3D)
- defringe
- denoise (profiled) (must do)
