Great shot!! Isn't Wakodahatchee a wonderful place to explore?! I also like Green Cay and Loxahatchee a lot and try to visit all when I am in Florida.

Some stunningly excellent work (IMO) in every category.

Very interesting (IMO) interview with Astronaut Terry Virts regarding photography from space. He used gear that many "regular" photogs use.

I agree with your sentiment 100%! I learned in Marketing 101 that the seller doesn't set the price, the marketplace does.

I viewed this outstanding video by Tony Northrup on the subject and my brain was hurting when he finished :-) but now I understand why the people who earn their living in stuff like sports and nature photography choose to lug around those big heavy full frame lenses and bodies. Full frame is better. I'm not a pixel counter so at the bottom line I don't care what sensor was used if the photo looks good and makes me feel good.

I live in Panama and have paid the steep price of having a fungus infected lens repaired. I have to ship my lenses back to the U.S. when they need service. I bought a small (30L) dehumidifier box which arrived this week. I have it set to the recommended RH 40%. It is silent, there is no water disposal required and it cost a fraction of the cost of trying to save an infected lens. Time will tell if it is an effective solution to the problem.

Previously I never shot at higher ISO but I had admired work done by others when they chose to shoot at elevated ISO settings so I thought I would do some testing to see how my equipment would perform at higher ISO. I had always been concerned about high ISO noise but I just decided to follow Captain Kirk and go where I had never gone before

Thanks for the feedback. It was shot at 1/640, f/11, 550mm, handheld with a Tamron 150-600 mm. At 100% magnification it does not degrade. In the eye I can see the clouds, sky and the railing on which they are sitting.

Over the years I have shied away from shooting with high ISO and relied on adjusting the other two legs of the triangle. I recently decided to test the high ISO (for me) world. I read articles that said the most my Nikon D610 could handle was ISO 3200 but shot this at ISO 4500. I expected huge amounts of digital noise but was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable noise levels.

Very nice set. Looking forward to more. Don’t know if you have heard of Tim Grey but he is a well known international pro who among other things, runs an annual workshop in the Palouse. You may be interested in viewing this link...

Impressive! What are your favorite áreas in Panama for birding? I now live in the interior of Panama but so far have not seen the wide variety you captured.

I owned the Nikon 200-500mm but recently bought the Tamron 150-600 G2 and use it on an FX body. So far I am happy I made the change. I shoot almost exclusively nature and rarely venture into portrait or landscape so the 150-600mm along with their 1.4X TC, my Nikon 28-300 and Nikon 105mm macro more than satisfy my interests, skill level and bank account. I'm sure many, if not most, of us dream of someday owning a megabucks fast prime lens (and a Ferrari :-) ) but I'm finding the G2 to be everything I want in a non-professional long lens. Good luck with whatever lens you choose!
