Thanks for that. Do you use a hygrometer?

Jerry.....the meter/gauge will tell you the approximate relative humidity....it won't solve the problem.

I live in west-central Florida (Tampa Bay Area). My AC takes care of the humidity during the months when I run it. In the winter, I have a portable dehumidifier (Hisense, with built in pump, bought at Lowe's) that I run when the humidity is high. The Damp Rid containers work too. B&H recently had a very nice RUGGARD, 120liter dehumidifying cabinet on sale. I keep my medium format bodies, lenses, etc, in it.

Been there....done that! Yes, it was exhilarating at the time. But then, that was the state-of-the-art.

My digital cameras have so many improvements over my film cameras....I won't even begin to elaborate.

My digital Memory card, is way smaller, doesn't have an expiration date, is not light or heat sensitive, and can hold way more images than any roll of film.

I can move my images from camera to computer in virtually no time. I generally sit, rather than stand, in my new digital darkroom

I have and use a variety of post-processing software which does not need replenishing/replacing, is not temperature or time dependent, has no odor or hazardous chemical nature, and provides a gazillion percent more image control than any wet darkroom ever did!

I can instantly print with archival inks on archival paper in selectable sizes, without test strips, or chemicals.

My new "digital darkroom" smells like whichever wax scent I put in my fragrance warmer....typically cinnamon stick, or something country.

The D70 is a crop sensor that will add to the "reach" of any lens. So, a 50 mm will actually work like an 80 mm. Take the crop size (usually around 1.6-1) x the lense length to get a more accurate focal length. Example: 50 mm x 1.6= 80 mm.
Most of you probably already know but I had to be reminded when I got a "nifty-fifty" a while back for my 7D mark 2.

I believe a D70 is a Nikon model. Crop factor for Nikon is 1.5. So on a D70, a 50mm lens will "act" like a 75mm. (Canon has a 1.6x crop factor)

Well.... Seems like a very generous and trusting gesture. In today's world, I would not be inviting perfect strangers to roam freely on my property....especially if I were advanced in age. Think about the potential of vandalism, arson, trash, and who knows what going on.

I have found that Japanese vendors (camera stores) on eBay tend to be reliable, honest and very professional. I have purchased several medium format cameras (Bronica GS-1) with accessories (speed light, 120 backs, variety of lenses, Sekonic light meter, filters, shutter release, etc) all from Japan. All are in near mint condition, as described by the sellers. Delivery time can take a week to a month, depending of vendor and shipping method. It appears that pre-owned Japanese optical gear has been meticulously and lovingly used by their original owners.

I have had consistently BAD experiences dealing with Chinese vendors. I will NOT use one again.

Strodav, I also rely on my histogram; for me it’s one of the most useful tools of all. The exposure problem is probably unique to my camera. I am thinking of getting a D500 and/or 850 as well. Definitely time for an upgrade. I thought I had my mind made up for the 850 but since I am moving in the direction of more action/wildlife and away from portraits I think the D500 would make more sense. Do you ever use yours for portraits? If so what lens(s) with it?

I shoot with a D500 and D810...with high-quality Nikkor glass. Both cameras give excellent results when I do my part. Both camera's autofocus, and metering are dead-nuts on. I find the FF format and large resolution (36Mpix) of the D810 ideal for landscapes, street scenes, portraits and pretty much anything that is slow moving or stationary. The crop sensor, and agile burst rate/autofocus on the D500 make it ideal for moving subjects, particularly at a distance. Both cameras are superb at what they were designed to do.

I had monthly charges on credit , check card constantly, personal call always, $ 12.99/mo + $ 11. + 2x days apart for about 4 months with no explanation WHY , very dump person to deal with however I got credit. I had cancelled my Prime a month before via computer and removed my credit card number from the system but they renewed anyway. They may be great but I WILL BE careful from now on.

One should ALWAYS be careful. Tell us more about the "very dump person" you dealt with.

Some name brands have incredible reputations. Not by accident....but because of their demonstrated performance.

I have several Crock Pots. I find them wonderful for slow cooked stews, soups, etc. They are also great for holding/serving chili and soups for guest. They are not great for general cooking.

My favorite is more of a counter-top roaster....because it gets much hotter, can braise and brown, cleans up easily, and makes superb dinners.

NESCO is the brand I have used for 40 years. Volumes range, but basically the internal surface is stick-proof, and the fully adjustable temperatures range from off to 450 degrees. I can roast a chicken, bake a beef or pork roast, make soups/red sauce/chili or pot roast. it will do it all.

I do a considerable amount of buying online. B&H, Adorama, eBay, Amazon and others. I live in Florida.

IMHO:

B&H offers quality merchandise, at competitive prices, orders over $39 ship for free, and no sales tax to Florida residents. They offer a free percentage "store credit" on some lenses, etc. Top-notch all the way!

Amazon offers a variety of products, which they or one of their vendors, provide. PRIME membership may or may not be a plus to you, depending on your ordering. I personally like the free 2-day delivery, the movies/videos, and music that PRIME gives me. I think PRIME membership is like $100/year. If you shop often, your shipping charges could exceed $100/year.

Also, I use my Chase/Amazon credit card for virtually all purchases. I get 3% (or so) back on every purchase, and (in my case) I have chosen to apply the credit to my Amazon account. I get hundreds of dollars a year back.

There are many fine manufacturers of cameras and optical equipment. Leica is one. IMHO, those that have lasted over time, make credible equipment that can produce outstanding images. Some manufactures produce fine equipment, that is WAY OVER PRICED. I think Hasselblad and Leica may be in that category.
