I did go to the Chicago Botanic Garden, (in Glencoe IL) to see if the Hummingbirds are still here.
Yes, they are still buzzing around. I even got a female Goldfinch.

These shots of the harvest moon were taken within 2 seconds of one another a few nights ago. The one with the orange hue is how the moon really looked. Why does the second shot not have the orange hue? I looked at the data- aperture, shutter, ISO, and metering are all the same.

The white balance was on auto. You moved the camera just a little. The moon is not all one color and the camera made a white balance correction.

I took these photos in 2018, but really never liked the color in my images. I think black and white is more natural for a night sky. As you can see, one is at Monument Valley, the other one is a 7 image panorama I took at 1:30 AM about 4 miles east outside Hanksville, Utah.

No, I don't speak Arabic. More people in Egypt and Jordan speak some English, more than during our 1982 self-drive trip through Italy, France, and Spain. Even the Bedouins in Wadi Rum, Jordan spoke English. Yes, you should take your 50mm F/1.4 with you. If you are going to Abydos - Temple of Seti, you will need it. I must say that I did hire a private tour guide in Luxor and in Giza. I think I paid $100-$120 a day. It was well worth it.

9 years ago my wife and I were on a 4-week self-drive trip in Jordan and Egypt.
I had a Canon 5D II and used only a 24-70mm f/2.8 throughout the trip. My wife used a
Canon Powershot G 12. On your first question, I can show one example where you need a fast lens.
Since you will be on a Nile River Cruise, you will be stopping at the Kom Ombo Temple and the
Crocodile museum. As you can see in the metadata of the top image - 1/30 sec, f/2.8, and ISO 1600,
that a fast lens will help. 2nd question: I only used a clear filter. On your 3rd question about the Milky Way with pyramids, I only can tell you there is a lot of light pollution. Cairo is only 3-4 miles from the pyramides, and Giza itself is not a small City. You also would have to find out if you can enter the park at night.
Have a great time, you will enjoy Luxor, also Petra is a wonderful place to visit.

fantastic shots - any idea what lens, speed, etc you used to shoot them?

All are shot with a Canon EF 100-400, some with the EF 1.4 extender, which equals 560mm. Most of the time I shoot at F8 and 1/800 to 1/2000 sec., and ISO in auto. Most shots are handheld and 6' to 12' to the bird.
Focusing is the biggest challenge. I use single-point focus, and back button focusing.

All my older images were processed with iphoto and later with Photos. Since I purchased Affinity Photo, I'm looking at older images and see if I can improve them. The biggest improvement I see is in noise reduction and sharpness.

Using the electronic shutter, you are dealing with the rolling shutter effect. I had the same problem last year with the Hummingbirds. Check out this:

Thanks, I guess I was not awake yet when I made the comment.

It's a Juvenile black-crowned Night Heron. Look at the beak and the legs, doesn't look like a Mallard Duck to me.

Regarding adding such things as title, caption, keywords and so on, I tried that in Photos with a raw file and then exported the raw file to a jpeg. The information did not carry over to the jpeg.

But when I tried it with the jpeg it did modify the correct fields in the file (EXIF).

Just something to be aware of depending on how you intend to use that feature.

Also, I noted that Photos uses "jpeg" instead of "jpg".

When exporting a Raw file make sure you include the check mark for Title, Keywords and Description and
Location info. It works for me.

I am interested in being able to "tweak" my photos to improve them even better than what "Photos" is capable of, as well as adding captions to the photos (which "Photos" can do, but it adds text ONTO the image. Not sure that is what they mean by "add a caption" to my photos). I don't necessarly need to operate "at the pixel level".

If you go to info, here you can add captions to your photo. I also import all my photos into Photos Library. I use Affinity for post-processing.

I think it is a Coopers Hawk. A Sharp-shinned Hawk has a more rounded head.
